Can anyone with a Cipher in Houston area do +2 timing?

Everyone in the FX forum is taking about the Cipher, and how they are changing the timing in the car to +2. I am not sure what that means, or if anyone is able to do it. Please respond, or help me understand what it really does. Does it void warranty? I think the dealer can do it.

Thanks everyone.

cipher is the new ecu (not sure if full stand alone or just piggy back) but its supposed to be more user friendly and have more tuning options then UTEC, and Emanage

Im suprised no-one has posted any info on this yet
from reading the FX forum they have been doing this mod for at least a year already, why is it never talked about here?
...did u read one guy with a G35 sedan has his timing advanced to +5 & ecu reflash

claiming more hp+torque & best mod short of FI

this mod is free-$50 tops

anything to help us FI challenged drivers out

I think +2 is the degree of timing being advanced.

they are advancing the timing to +2 like 6spG said & its supposed to be safe as long as you use 93 Octane & not FI
result improving HP & Torque
im not sure but i dont think it voids warrantee either, i need to read a little more on it.
....patiently waiting on the experts to bless us with their Infinite knowledge, i mean Infiniti knowledge

Hmmm, wonder how this effects A/F ratios. Since there is
a knock sensor to worry about?

Not sure if Cipher has THAT level of tune yet. But the current (as I know it) only has some of the Nissan Consult access and all OBDII accessability.

you may want to post over at my350z.com since it's working now, and there are a ton more people and shops that could chime in.

no you don't need to worry about a knock sensor. Advancing your timing by two degree's is recommended if you are doing exhaust, plenum spacer and intake to equal the fuel with the extra air going into your engine. I think anyone can do it with a timing light and I don't think they're very expensive so I would say do it yourself (if i'm right about the inexpensive part)

Okay that is correct as 2 deg won't really do much unless he's already running lean and it's dead of summer.

Not sure what this means.
1) Timing advance benefits everyone (mods or not)
2) timing advance won't do anything to "equal the fuel with the extra air..."

You migth be able to READ the timing using a light (that is if you can get a reading off the low voltage SIGNAL to the coil pack). But there's no way in hell you can alter the timing using a timing light and a wrench.

I haven't done this yet so I don't know how easy it is on our cars, but on many you can do this with a timing light and a wrench. I looked for a DIY for this for our cars and couldn't find one. This is all I found:
