Interior swap...help!

I have been thinking for a while of switching my interior to black..so i can do some custom interior work. I found a guy who restores performance cars, he buys alot of wrecked g35s and brings them back to condition and sells them. I emailed him asking him if he was willing to do a trade my tan interior for a black interior. He said that he would do it for $1500 installed. Carpet, panels, front and rear seats, dash, ext...

What do you guys think of this? Is this a good deal?

Sounds like a good deal to me but it depends on how much you are willing to do. That's quite a bit of work and a lot of small parts you would need to find for a DIY. Think of all the time just in searching for parts not counting the work.

If it were me, I would see what he would want to just swap you the parts and go from there. If it would save you $500+ do DIY I might do that.

yeah, i was thinking of just swaping out parts and then doing it myself, but im not that familiar with the intior parts...as i dont rip them out everyday you know? Im sure it would be all that hard, but it would be very time consuming.

I mean 1500 isnt all that bad you know?

Switching from tan to black ought to be good for at least 5 HP.

your doing an even trade on parts willow for black + he's charging $1500 for labor?

doesnt sound like a good deal to me

seriously
front & rear seats, floor carpet, roofliner, rear interior panels & door panels is very easy & can all be done by yourself in about 2-4hrs (being modest)

do all that & let him do the dash, I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself
throw him $500 to change the dash, its a PITA took me i think 6hrs, now that i know where all the clips & screws are i can swap a dash about 3hrs-4hrs
if he restores wrecked G35's like u say, it should take him same amount of time or less
so $500 for 3hrs of labor = $166per/hr for labor!!! ....my lawyer charges less than that

just read u didnt wanna do it yourself

ask him how long it should take then divide the hrs into $1500 & u get cost per hr then see if that a lot in your opinion

full interior swap on a G cant take longer than 8-9hrs especially for someone who restores them

Yes, but if he did it himself, then it would probably not be a swap so much as he would have to buy the parts and then sell his. You need to factor in your time value of money. How much is your time worth, and is getting an all black interior what you want.

Also do me a favor, drop me a line if he can get me a 04 black coupe passanger seat. I have a tear in mine and they want 450 bucks to fix it..

I agree, it's not bad at all. If you are not sure about it I would just pay him to do it all.

Yeah, i will email him and ask about labor charges and what not. He would have to take all the parts out of the other coupe, take all the parts out of my coupe then reinstall everything back in my coupe and reinstall everything back in his coupe....so it would be more than 8 hours labor IMO.

doesn't sound too bad to me either, I'd do it. There's a hella amount of parts to do a complete conversion and it's gonna take some time. Sure, it sounds like a lot of money for a simple parts swap, but you need to look at it this way. you're not just paying for the labor you're also paying for the color which is more in demand. I heard numerous times how someone want to change to black, I've never once heard someone say they want to change to tan.
