California Emissions Upgrade

California Emissions Upgrade
Well, I'm still trying to buy my coupe... I have been dealing with Rosenthal Infinity in Fairfax, VA, but I'm getting the run around. First they said it would be here the beginning of December, now they are claiming December 15th. But, no VIN number yet, so I really doubt it will be here by the 15th. So I'm looking at other options.
I have found a dealership in California that will have what I want on December 5th, but all of their cars have an Emissions Upgrade. Does anyone know what this upgrade is? Can I undo this since I don't need it here in Virginia?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: California Emissions Upgrade
Nine times out of ten, these days, the California Emissions Upgrade is nothing more than a sticker that says they've paid extra money to the state government.
The 50-state vehicle is an LEV. I don't know what more it would need.

Re: California Emissions Upgrade
Being that all the G35's are made in Japan and sent over. I don't think they took time to make specific models just for CA. Or would they?
I always wondered what "ULEV" is. A lot of newer Hondas have that sticker on the side window.
I'm glad this post wasn't about some more California smog restrictions.

Re: California Emissions Upgrade
I live in California and bought my 2003 G35 coupe used from Missouri and had it shipped here after verifying that it was emissions certified for 50 states. AFAIK, there is no separate emissions for CA in the G35 coupe. I also shipped in a 2001 Acura MDX from another state a couple of years ago. Saved some $$$ in both instances by buying out of state.

Re: California Emissions Upgrade
ZEV are only for fully electric cars since they produce zero emissions. Not even hybrids get this rating.
They also have SULEV which is Super Ultra Low Emissions and
they came out with a new rating AT-PZEV... which is Advanced Technology - Partial Zero Emissions for hybrids.
Basically, these ratings make you feel all warm and fuzzy about how you're "saving the enviornment" and have little to do with legal requirments. I'm sure if any of us were extremely concious about the environment then we would all be driving the Toyota Prius or Honda Insight for all that.
