What happens when your clear coat is stripped?
I'm curious to see if anybody has had any experience w/ this. Parts of my friend's doors have been stripped of the clearcoat (from a vinyl/decals catastrophe).
So now there are patches on his driver side door and passenger side door that are missing clear coat (kinda like somebody RIPPED it off)..
Anybody know the repair process involve? will the doors have to be repainted completely? Or can sanding a new shot of clearcoat work?

If the clear coat was all that was damaged, then they could probably just feather out the clear around the damaged area, then shoot the clear over and blend in the area......Take it to a reputable paint shop....get done right the first time....
Good luck.
Good luck.
If the clear can be feathered, then scuff base w/ gold scotchbrite pad and shoot a couple coats of clear on.(I'd do only one door to see if this works).I've been useing Dupont Refinishing products for over 30yrs. They recommend applying another coat of base if you have to scuff the base. They have a adhesion promoter 222-S (i believe). If you're concerned about a color match, feather the clear, apply adh.promoter and clear the doors. Though I'd recommend completely refinishing the doors.A good painter will do a "spray out" to make sure the color matches.Hope this helps.
Were the doors repainted before? I haven't seen an OEM clear delam. When a adhesive backed vinyl is removed. If the doors have been refinished and the vinyl put on before all the solvents had time escape this could explain your problem also. You can send pm if you have questions..

well if he has warranty, then he can obvoisly can get the whole thing replaced
other than that, feathering it out will most likely work the best besides replacing he whole thing
