05 navigation questions

Can I update the 05 navigation with some new graphics or something along those lines? It works, its just not pretty =) also, I've read that the upgrade firmware is like 200 bucks, a bit much really... does it add any new functionality or anything along that line?

Also, what do the voice functions do?

I had an 05coupe w/ navigation but i do not think the graphics can be upgraded. You can upgrade your CD but that mostly add new roads and maps not previously installed. My 06coupe navigation has better graphics but thats because the whole navigation system was changed.
The voice function repeats the command when you enter a location to be directed too.

Navigation doesn't work

Guys, I m hoping someone here can help me out with this. I have a 2004 G35 Sedan with a built in NAV. It has worked well the past three years and out of nowhere, it quit on me. All it gives me now is when I start the car is the screen, where I am supposed to click "accept" and then it sits on "please wait". Is anyone aware of anything that can cause this, any diagnostics that I can run to fix the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Nav DVD drive gone bad

Guys,

Does anyone have any instructions on removing the NAV DVD drive from a 04' G35 Sedan. The manual says once I remove the four screws I should be able to pull the center box assembly.

I removed the screws from the center box and I had even removed the glove box. The center box covering the DVD player didn't seem to come off easily. I was afraid I might break it and put everything together.

Any instructions/pictures would be helpful. Also it looks like, I m going to need a new DVD drive. Does anyone know where I can get these drives, except the dealer, as in after market?

Thanks in advance.

Navigation repair locations

I have a 04 G35 sedan. I havent been able to use the Nav in the past month. When I click "I accept", it just sits there saying please wait. It seems the DVD drive is trying to read the DVD and continues to fail. When I did a diagnosis, it says there is something abnormal with the DVD drive.

Are there any local repair facilties where I can have the drive checked? I live in DC area and just dont seem to find one that will do a repair on this nav.

Thanks in advance.

Prob a dumb question. Anyway to burn a copy of the DVD? Is there a chip we can put in that will let us use NAV while car is running, and use copied DVD?

yes, u can burn a copy of a new dvd and use it, just pop it in. do a search on this forum and u'll find guys creating copies for "backup use". if you want to use the nav while driving, u have to do a mod which involves cutting a cable behind the dvd player and putting a bypass switch on it...this also can be found on this forum if u do a search. hope that helps =)
