How to defrost?

Sorry if this seems obvious, but it's getting near winter and just exactly which button is for defrosting snow and vapour on the windows? I know the second button from the right(top row) will heat the back window and side mirrors, but when the first button seems to turn on the a/c everytime I turn it on, is that right? What's the best way to 'warm' the car and make all windows clear? Thanks

Re: How to defrost?

In the morings when the car is covered with frost, I ususally come out and push the front window defroster(the one that you said turns on the a/c) with the temp. set to 90 degrees and fan on high, the back defroster on and the seats warmers on high. After a few minutes of that, my car is nice and toasty and completely defrosted. Give it a try, see how you like it.

Re: How to defrost?

Don't be confused into thinking the A/C will cool the car when you turn on the system for heat. That A/C light comes on whenever the sysem is engaged in auto mode, but will only engage the A/C to dehumidify. I believe the A/C won't fully engage unless the outside air temp is above about 40 degrees F, and only if the cabin temp setting is below the indicated outside air temp.
You can turn off the A/C indicator light for manual mode, but this cancels any auto operation of the system including dehumidifying which you need.
