Exorbitant Lease Rates

My wife is interested in leasing either the G or a 325i. Both are around $34-35k, but the 3 year lease on the G is almost $100 more a month. We've been getting rates of about 480 - 500 month for a basic 3 year/12k mile lease with 3k down. Why are the leases so costly on the coupe? Is it because the residual is low due to the car only being around for 2 years or is Infiniti hosing people on the interest factor?

What numbers are they giving you on the lease (Money factor, residual value, length of lease) Mine was .00215(Money Factor), 60%(Residual Value), and 39 months, plus sales tax(Mine is 5%) I leased a $37,835 MSRP 2004 G35C for $417.19 a month for 39 months.. I got $2700 off of MSRP plus I put down $2000 for that deal.

Re: Exorbitant Lease Rates

Infinitis in general have traditionally lost value faster than other luxury marks, so you have to pay more of the value of the G than the BMW up front in the lease. However, Kelly Blue Book projects that the G will lead all coupes in value retention over the next 3 years, so there's strong indications that the usual rules don't apply to the G. I would say you're getting screwed if you go the lease route on this car. It's almost a certainty that you'll do better in the long run doing a purchase.

Re: Exorbitant Lease Rates

What you are being told is a tad bit higher than it should be. 2k down for a 3 year lease should give you payments of around 420.

Those who say leasing this car is no good are crazy. Buying a car is crazy if you ask me (unless you absolutely love the car and know you will mod it). You lose valye as soon as you drive off the lot, your warranty will run out, etc... I've bought a car before, and I will never do it again if I have a choice. That's just me though. It's a terrible investment.

$417/month. What state do you live in Mike. That is a great deal from what I have seen.

I live in MA. The residual value on a 3 year lease is 60 % not 50-51%.

Re: Exorbitant Lease Rates

I was quoted ridiculously high rates from my local dealer as well. I had previously leased a BMW 330ci, and had the same issue you mentioned -- the BMW cost several thousand more, but lease rates were the same. Then I ran across a national leasing company, Lease- By-Tel (www.aolleasing.com). After several rounds of negotiating, we agreed on a price that beat the dealer quote by about $90 per month and they got me the exact color/options that I wanted. If you decide to call them for a quote, ask for Barry and tell him you want the same deal I got (John Kristoff). This is the first time I leased a car outside of the dealer and I can tell you I'll never lease through the dealer again! They delivered this car to my house about 5 days after we agreed on the price. Couldn't be happier!

Almost forgot to mention, you HAVE to get the G-35 coupe. Once you drive this car, there is no going back to the BMW!
