Targeting the BMW M3 and M-B AMG
Targeting the BMW M3 and M-B AMG
It seems that Infiniti was aiming for the BMW 3 series and the C-class Mercedes with the G35.
The logical extension of the new Infiniti mind-set is to develop a superpremium model to compete with BMW's Ms and the AMG modified Mercedes. I think the G35 is the perfect model to start with. Lexus does not have the hardware or the nerve to make such a model and Acura's Type S could not, in my opinion, compete with a G35 Type SE-R or Spec V or whatever Nissan would call it.
I hope Infiniti uses this car to fill the niche just waiting for the Japanese supercar.
Any thoughts?

Of course, wait for GT-R in a couple of years. It will be the first run of the legendary skyline GT-R in the US.

As the G35 is the Skyline in Japan it will eventually come out with a GT-R version of it just like it has before. Rumours point to a TT V-6.

It would be nice, but I doubt a V8 could be crammed into the G's engine bay. I'd be happy with a supercharger.
Or maybe Infiniti could figure out how BMW gets 333hp from a 3.2L engine and apply said knowledge to the VQ 3.5L, while keeping in a little Japanese reliability.

Re: Targeting the BMW M3 and M-B AMG
they do it by producing such high rev's, just like the ferrari 360, its only a 3.6 V8 but pushes 400 Horsepower at 9,000RPM i believe, but peak torque is the same as the G...
i bet the VQ can get that much power once you bump the RPM limit, but then you run into excessive engine wear... maybe changing the pistons and putting more reinforced parts instead of all-aluminum would help in that
These are the numbers on the Ferrari 360...
Horsepower 400 @ 8500 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 276 @ 4750 RPM
hmmmmmmmmmm...

V6tt or V8
Nissan is debating between the 3.5TT or 4.5 NA motors. Either one should have about 400hp. There is still a debate as to whether it will come as a Nissan or Infiniti, but I imagine like most of you that it will be an Infiniti to whoop some M3 @$$. I think that the 3.5TT would be better, but the V8 will be more in line with the S4 and next M3.
Re: Targeting the BMW M3 and M-B AMG
G45 it is... I think it would make the perfect M3/AMG killer. Think about it, take the M45 engine (all 340hp) and stuff it into the G35 chassis. After all the M45 and the G35 are based on the same frame. Therefore I would assume that the engine mounts would be the same as well. The only draw back would be the weight. The power to weight ratio would probably still be better the in the M3. A Twin Turbo setup would probably solve this nicely! Anyone heard of any available yet?
Re: Targeting the BMW M3 and M-B AMG
By the time they put a V8 in the G35, so will the M3. It will be hard for infiniti to compete if they want to make the G as affordable as is right now. In my opinion, the M3 will always stay a league ahead of the G. Netherless, I still want the G.

This topic, and all other competitors of the g35 have already been discussed in the thread "looks like trouble" posted by me in the sedan forum. I think it has 8 pages already. Nevertheless, if they put a v8 in the m3, then acceleration would b slowed, as the m3 already ways around 3400 pounds, and only with a 3.2 v6! if your thinking about that 3.2 330 horse issue, the z33gt (350z GT) is 3.6 liters and outputs 450 horses.

Price $75,000 Availiable internationaly with racing liscese. One will b racing soon at the daytona or indy 500 or one of those races. It almost beat the fastest lap time ever set by a car in the class. The amazing thing is that it has barely even been developed. So look foward to a killer new car in the GT class races. I certainly look forward to some long-missed podium finishes for nissan

23,000 lbs? Are we talking 18-wheel drive, as well?
