Targeting the BMW M3 and M-B AMG
Re: Targeting the BMW M3 and M-B AMG
"Nevertheless, if they put a v8 in the m3, then acceleration would b slowed, as the m3 already ways around 3400 pounds, and only with a 3.2 v6!"
I doubt it, BMW doesn't put anything in their M line slower than the last version...they've got too much competion from the AMG and Audi S line to allow that!
I don't think BMW's M divison as well as M-B's AMG is at all scared of anything Nissan/Infiniti does now or in the future. They've got a loyal following willing to pay ANY price for their machines. As evidenced by their '03/04 product lines, 500+ hp is "no big deal"! Check out the new E55...1/4 in 12.4@118mph...is that outrageous or what!? The new M5 will have 500hp V10 designed/built primarily by their F1 program.
Go ahead, NISMO offer us a s/c, turbo, G45 whatever, the M and AMG cars have been there, done that. Either way, the g35 6mt is a wonderful car for the $$.

Perspective from an M3 Owner...
I currently own an 02 E46 M3 and call me crazy, but I am very tempted to trade it in for the G35 Coupe if I can get a good deal.
BTW A v8 has already been dropped into an M3. Hartge did it with the M5 engine. 0-60 and 1/4 mi times were no different than the stock M3 and it handled worse...Go figure.

Re: Perspective from an M3 Owner...
Guess I'm crazy too then. I currently own an '02 SLK32 AMG and have been very seriously considering a trade to a G35 coupe. I could really use a back seat and rarely use the roof or the extra 70hp that the AMG has over the G35. But good deals are hard to come by right now. The Charlotte Infiniti dealership made a very low trade-in offer, so if I can't sell the car somehow (e.g. eBay, see below) then I guess I'll have to wait out my lease. Would love to have a black G35 coupe soon though!

Re: Perspective from an M3 Owner...
Slk,
I would definitely drop the SLK and get a Coupe. I'm 5'11'' and I use to drive a freaking Miata, and it just didn't look right. These roadster's are good as a second weekend car to go cruising around, but definitely not good for everyday driving. Or the opposite, just a good car to drive to work and home in everyday and have another car to drive around. The point is that you have to have a 2nd car if you own a roadster. These roadster's (miata, slk, Z3/4, etc) are starting to look kinda 'girly' for a guy to go crusing around in. It just doesn't look tough. Just my opinion though, good luck on the sale......

Re: V6tt or V8
the GT-R will be marketed seperately.... so I don't think it'll compete with M3s and C32s.... the true competitors for the GT-R should be the new NSX and the new Supra... if they are built, that is... mean while, R-spec will probably provide us G owners with M Gmbh and AMG whooping power....
Re: V6tt or V8
the GTR now stomps m3s and amgs so im sure the new one would
the new supra is supposed to be sc430 based so expect it to be unstoppable, toyota has waited this long because they wanted to pull out all the stops
and lexus has the ***** they are supposed to be preparing to produce a is430 that the european version of TRD made for the heck of it
