on the mid east coast in de we finally got snow and ice. i have no problem driving and the vdc is nice too. Anyhow coming back in my hood there was a G on 18's stuck and spinning. Being a fellow G i hoped out and pushed with his parents. Guess sport/summer/ all season tires really do make a difference.

About vdc it would cut power when sliding and trying to fishtail, which i liked. But when i got stuck last night i had to turn it off so i could spin out.

Anyhow glad i don't have some 20 volks at this time. Check back in 3mnths and ill sing a different tune

I just say all of this b/c people ask for an AWD G or complain about winter handling. Do you just not know how to drive and be easy on the gas?

 

The G is the worst car I've ever had for snow and ice. Maybe it's really flat where you live, but if you have to go up any hills (even really small) with even just an inch of snow on the ground you can forget it. And I tried turning off the VDC to get out of the snow and it still kept cutting the power to the wheels.

 

The first year I had my G I couldn't find snow tires....so I roughed it out....that was no fun let me tell you.....I slid into a curb and F'd up my front rim....

The second winter season I put on 17"s w/Dunlop Winter sport M3's. Boy, it was no four wheel drive by any means....but I had no problem navigating in the snow.....Even some storms with close to a foot of snow on the road. I managed using common sense and a light gas pedal to get around with the rest of them...

I think the G is not the best suited car for the winter season. But, if you invest in a good set of winter tires and drive conservatively, you should be fine....just watch out for all the other A-holes on the road with you!

 

Got the Blizzaks/17's on just incase I get stock at work. Today we got 3 inches of ice/snow/rain and the G's home sleeping in the garage. Thank you/wifee//got her suv today

Crazy, still havent driven the G in the snow yet..oh well..next time maybe

All RWD are like this. Snow tires are in order for those conditions as well as possibility snow chains.
With VDC off and still cutting power, sounds like a visit to the Dealer is in order. It shouldn't be cutting power with that off.

 

Well said. I use the same tires on 18"s I had no problem going up or down hills this morning getting into work with 2-3" of snow on the road.

 

at least your vdc works. i can leave my vdc on and still spin my tires for a good minute or two withouy loosing power. I had to drive to work yesterday and i was fishtailing all over gods creation it got to the point where i just took my foot off the brake and let the car roll on its own cause i couldnt even touch the gas

 

I just leave my G in the garage drive my denali

 

I live where we don't get any snow and so I try to see about getting the VDC to not work. I turn it off and I still get power cut to my wheels. How can I get this to stop???

 

My G even can't go up on the ramp at my basement parking.

 

i got oem 17's for winter tires..i was lazy and just put them on a few days ago. before that i was driving with completely bald oem 19's. i think im gonna take my 17's drifting tonight =]

 

I drove 2 winters on Pilot Sports, and one winter on Pirelli 240 snow sports (then said f jersey and moved to arizona). Its not that hard to drive the car through light snow (1-3 inches) as long as you have the VDC off and take it really light. Every time we'd get serious snow, I'd just stay home, or ask a friend with a truck/suv for a ride. The third year I got aggrivated and got the Pirellis. To be honest, there was no difference except on hills. The pilots liked to just give out on a few hills by me (which I would just avoid) where the 240's would grip. Not really worth the money though. Just buy a beater and save your G ftw.

 

Its not even because of RWD, its because our cars come with SUMMER TIRES! My old prelude had the same problems with summer tires on there during the winter because the compound get hard as a rock. My neigbor's 4wd X5 with 20's and summer tires also was sliding everywhere. Get some snow tires and you'll be fine

 

I got stuck in an unexpected snow storm on the way back from Vegas last winter with my Volks and T1r's... just had to slow down a little, had no problems at all. I imagine in a place where it really snows though the car would be hard to drive, but then again so would any rear wheel drire car with almost 300hp.
