Screw in the rotor?

I have a quick question for everyone. I just changed over the rims in my 06 6mt coupe from the stock 19"s to a set of 17"'s from a sedan(snow tires). I installed the first three wheels no problem. On the fourth wheel I could not get it to sit flush againt the rotor. I noticed that there is a screw and spacer about 7/8" sticking out of the rotor in between two lug screws. This screw was preventing my wheel from sitting flush. I did remove the screw and put the rim on with, apparently, no issues.

Question is, what is that screw and spacer used for and am I going to break something driving without it?

Im pretty sure that screw is there to make sure you put the back wheels on the back and front wheels on the front. They are not the same size, so thats why they make it not sit right if you have the wrong rim. One of the front wheels you put on will sit there flush, you just have to see which one it is.

All the rims and tires are the same size though. Will it hurt anything if I run them with out the spacer screw?

It will not hurt anything if you run without it.

You are supposed to respect the staggered setup on the G but it's understandable if you have to run snow tires.

I thought all 4 rims on the G35's were the same size, just fronts are rapped in differnt sized rubber. Is there an actual difference in the 19's or still just the size tire?

OK, so far two possible functions for that screw, at least the general consensus is that i can run my wheels without the screw! I wish I took a pic when the rim was off so everyone knew what i meant.

Nope - 18s are 8" wide front and rear. But, as has been noted the tires are staggered. The 17s on the other hand are different. 7.5" front and 8" rear.

I had to remove that screw to install my aftermarket wheels.
