Weight reduction.

This is my reply to another thread. Just want some of your input. This was from a thread about getting lighter weight speakers, but ive seen a lot of people post up about doing something similar. Remember we drive Infinitis not Civics. Don't butcher to lose a couple pounds.
All this weight reduction stuff is getting out of control. The car is 3500+ lbs. Unless you're gutting it, why worry about losing 8 ounces? i just dont get it. If your that concerned with weight, lose a few inches from your waiste line. hey does anyone have any bald tires they can sell me? looking for some lighter weight tires.

Speakers and all of the extra crap people put in their cars for their audio/video themes do add a tremendous amount of extra weight to the car so i definitely understand opting for lighter speakers. Yes we drive a heavy car, and yes there are plenty of threads discussing this, but how many people actually have gutted their cars? I've see maybe three, (but nobody's car from this forum). It's not getting out of control because frankly, when it comes down to it all people want is a faster car, and less weight equals faster capabilities. We don't drive civics, but one of us gutting our cars would be no different than someone gutting a supra (which actually weighs more, and was more expensive when it came out (luxury sports car)). I personally wouldn't do it unless I was seriously racing it, and I'm sure no one else here really would either. Deal dude. I can't beleive I just got suckered into your car-political statement lol. Everyone has different takes on modding and what they think is cool.

What type of track you plan to run on? Running on bald tires will expose you to the steel belts quicker. There are more ways to reduce the weight of the car than compromising your safety. ie - back seats

I know, i was being fecicious. Im simply pointing out how people want to do absolutely rediculous mods to their car to make it a couple pounds lighter. Like removing the a/c. If you really want to go lightweight, go with carbon fiber / fiberglass body panels. not lightweight speakers and **** like that.
