Anyone also own an FX?

I am considering the purchase of an FX to add to the garage. Anyone have any thoughts/experience with them: 35 vs. 45, reliability, comparisons to other SUV's, etc. Thanks for the help.

casper... same here. i had an FX35 loaner and test drove both 35/45 and decided on the 35. i'm looking at either the 35 (loaded or with at least the sport pack) or the lexus. if you're interested in a 2003 45, there are dealers now offering 5k off.

I test drove one the same time that i test drove the G and the only thing that really bothered me was how long the nose was. Kind of hard to see over IMO even with the seat all the way up.

We have an FX 35 and love it. Got it for the wife and the G35C for me =D Personally the 35 is the way to go. Difference between the 35 and the 45 is a V6 vs a V8. Don't need the extra power so I'll save the $10,000 thank you much. The FX is a great drive, beautiful interior, sleek looks, the whole shabang! Highly recommend it.

Re: Anyone also own an FX?

I drove both, and the 45 felt nose-heavy and a bit more ponderous as the V8 and AWD conspire to add 500 pounds. I didn't notice a notable difference in acceleration, though if you regularly haul people or tow, you might wish for the extra torque provided by the V8.

You should do a search at automobilemag.com and carand driver.com . I recall that both preferred the 35 with 18 inch wheels, the 45 with 20s supposedly suffering from too rough of a ride.

I should add that the FX is a very impressive vehicle, so much so that I would probably have chosen one over a G35 sedan. The only comparable SUV in performance at that price level is the Cadillac SRX, and then it becomes a matter of subjective preference for the design, which I think the FX wins hands down.

Re: Anyone also own an FX?

I got a loaded FX35 a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier with it. I got it with the Tech Package, which includes the dvd player, nav, keyless ignition, etc. I spent $41k before taxes, which was below cost. Right now is the time to buy.

I drove the 45, but wasn't interested, mainly because I wanted better MPG and it wasn't worth the extra cost. There is NOTHING that can be improved on this suv. I honestly cannot fault it at all. Everything about it is cool! GET ONE!

Re: Anyone also own an FX?

It strikes me as odd that on a forum on which people are constantly discussing how to get more performance out of their cars at seemingly any cost, every one seems to be mentioning that they are passing up the V8 when they have a chance to get it on the FX! Odd, or is it me????????
If the FX45 is in lower demand, maybe a better deal would be available on the FX45??

Re: Anyone also own an FX?

haha gsg... this could be why.

rainmeister's post:

i've read on this forum that people have either (1) found no difference in acceleration between the 35/45 or (2) didn't like the ride of the 45. that V8 is also $10k extra so some don't feel it is worth it or want a little better gas mileage. besides, the 35 with 20" wheels and sport suspension rides just as well as the 45 (which comes with 20s), but for less moolah. and yeah, you're right. i've found that you will see more deals with the 45 (like up to $5-6k off) than the 35. i read somewhere that the dealers get something extra from infiniti for selling more 45s.

Re: Anyone also own an FX?

The difference between the 35 and 45 is considerable in acceleration, but not for the price. I think if the 45 had some other edges over the 35, then maybe it would do better in sales, but that extra jump in $$$ is huge for 1 second less from 0-60. FX45's 0-60 is roughly 6.4, while the 35 is 7.1. That's not a huge improvement, especially when its a truck, not a sports car! That's why I have my G35 coupe!

My FX35 has EVERYTHING the 45 has, minus the extra tank of gas every 2 weeks. I couldn't be happier. Oh yeah, the 45 does ride a bit rougher too, but nothing us coupe owners can't handle.

Re: Anyone also own an FX?

If safety means anything, I think the FX rated the best out of a lot of SUVs in a recent study or something, (heard it on the news).

Re: Anyone also own an FX?

A lot of V6 powered vehicles are slapping around V8s these days...Just because someone rolls up on you with a V8 doesn't mean he's automatically going to outperform you...The 45, in my opinion, wasn't outperforming the 35 and wasn't worth the larger price tag...And from MY standpoint the Nissan VK can't be tuned like the VQ can (otherwise I'd have an M45 by now), and I have no intention of my FX35 to remain stock in any form

I think you're referring to the IIHS' release of results from their recent crashworthiness tests of SUVs. They all achieved overall "Good" scores:

That was the Car and Driver test with the Cadillac coming in 1st, followed by the Cayenne, FX45 and Toureg.

Re: Anyone also own an FX?

The Volkswagen Toureg is MotorTrend's 2004 SUV of the year. This SUV is awesome and even though I own a G35 coupe, I think that this SUV is better than the FX, for less than the cost of the FX45. My 2 cents.
