problem with engine or clutch???!!!!
i have a 03 coupe mt and it seems that i have a problem with either my engine or clutch and i dont know what it is. whenever i hit the gas at an higher gear like 4th 5th or 6th gear going 40 mph, the rpm jumps to 5 or 6000 and goes back down to 2 or 3000 rpm and goes back up. its almost like driving an automatic and hiting the gas and the rpm jumps and goes back to normal.. is the problem with my engine or clutch cause i could some foul smell like clutch burnt out or something. neeed helpp, should i replace my clutch or something??? neeed helpp!!
o yea another thing, on the free way on 6th gear, if i hit the gas sometimes, the rpm revs all the way up to 7000 going only 80 and goes back down...

Definitely your clutch, without a doubt your clutch. Those are obvious symptoms of your clutch massively slipping. How many miles do you have on that thing and how badly do you beat on it?
^+1 Clutch
As for the rpm drops to normal. i think the clutch slip at first contact w/ the flywheel but get the grip later when pressure plate applys more pressure to the clutch forcing the clutch to pick up the same momentum so the RPM drops down to normal.

A couple of years ago, there was a post about adjusting the height of the clutch pedal engagement point. If it was not done properly it would cause premature wear of the clutch. Many 03 & 04 owners did this and are now paying the price of having to replace their clutches. Do a search and see if you can find how to adjust the clutch back to the original spec. It sounds that there is pressure on the clutch release bearing, which doesn't allow the plate to grab onto the flywheel with the proper pressure.(kind of driving with your foot resting on the clutch pedal) Try adjusting before you go to the expense of complete clutch replacement.
hmm, my clutch pedal engagement point is pretty high or when i have to shift i dont even need to step on the clutch half way, hmmm i have to go get it checked it guess. my gas mileage is more cause it revs so much and i cant even go fast anymore.. does anyone recommond any aftermarket products??
