I pointed out a specific case where where you need a VERY precise shift to rev as high as possible without hitting the revlimiter. I agree that anyone should be able to shift by the sound of the car without a tach during normal driving situations becuase the actual rpms isn't can vary a little without much difference in acceleration.

Hell i dont even see a need for it on the 1/4 unless your FI and have to watch boost, egt, a/f etc gauges and dont have the time to look at the rpms. I came from a GST and had 3 gauges to watch and still didnt have a need for a shift light even on the track. Enlighten me.... please.

on another note this is one of the stupidest things to argue about ever. who cares if you have to look down and read the tach or use a shift light as long as you're driving well it doesn't matter IMO.... just my $0.02

Personally I think it depends. If you're accelerating, then you'd want to shift somewhere higher in your powerband to get the most out of that gear, and then shift the the next.
If your just cruising, there's no need to sit in 3rd at like 4500 and not shift into 4th because your shift light doesn't go off until 5000 lol. It's honestly just common driving sense. I'm not trying to sound like an ***, that's just my take on it.
