I'd rather get a 6MT, worry about the navigation later.

What would you choose?: 6MT or Navigation

I'm in the market for a G35. Ideally, I would like a 6MT WITH Navigation. Doesnt seem like that's gonna happen though. Most of the G's out there are either 6MT with no navi or automatic with navi . My budget is $24k out the door.

If you had to choose, what would you do? I'm hoping to pick one up sooner than later, so any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i would just save a little more ca$h buy the 6mt.. then do a custom in dash.. probably run you cheaper than buying it thru dealership or 3rd party

i went through the same thing, and i thought i would regret not getting the nav. not one bit! i would not trade 6mt for a nav... aftermarket looks and functions way better anyway! for $2000... which is similar to what you're paying factory. just get 6mt, then get a z-1 or z-2 later. that's what i'm planning to do

^ Thanks guys, you're swaying my decision

I just really like the way the stock unit is integrated into the console, but I guess aftermarket could be just as good.

Gonna check out an laser red 03' 6MT tonight, we'll see what happens

It all depends on your driving style (is it a DD or weekend car). I rarely use my nav but I always find myself looking out of the corner of my eye at it. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with 6MT.

It's gonna be a daily, but here in SoCal we have some nice mountain roads and of course, PCH. I'd love to let her loose a bit for those occasions.

Yeah, it would suck driving in traffic with a manual. But ah...I'll just suck it up.

You wanna have fun... 6MT hands down.

The question is, do you really need the Nav?

Trust me, a clutch and shifter is alot funner than a Nav

It all depends on whether you need it or not.

Ok ask your self these questions.

1. How long are you going to own the car for? Do you plan on buying it for a couple of years then trade it in or keep it until it falls apart?

2. Are you going to have time to drive the car just for the fun of it, and/or possibly race it?

3. Do you take long road trips or drive in unknown areas a lot?

If you are going to keep the car for a long time, i'd say get Automatic with navi just because for 1 you never know if you are going to move and might need the navi in the new place that you live, or 2 you just might get tired of driving the 6MT in the long run, It might be fun for a year or two or maybe even less but in the long run it might get tiring and frustrating.

If you are going to have time to drive the car a lot just for fun and or race it then get a 6MT hands down, if you are the type of person to take it on curvy roads and long abandoned straight aways and just drive to enjoy the car then yes get 6MT.

If you take long trips (cross country) or to a lot of unknown areas then get the navi. If you stay in your city which you know like the back of your hand, then what's the point of getting navi?

I have a 06 6MT WITH Navi(Aftermarket) and let me tell you that it's a PAIN to install it especially if your car has bluetooth, dual climate, and steering wheel controls. You can get the installer to solder the dual climate but they have know how to do it so they don't fu$k anything up, bluetooth you will need to spend an additional $250 for the piece and the install, and steering wheel controls another $100 for piece and install. Aftermarket navi installed with all of that can come out to $2400, not worth it to me. I woulda got the OEM Navi if I had the chance and had it modified to play DVDs.
It gets tiring to drive 6MT too, it was fun as first but not it's just tiring.

Hope this helps!

You gotta love PCH. I just drove up to Leo Carillo State Beach with my bulldog this morning before going to work. That 30 mile drive up PCH is so relaxing.

Thanks G35Coupe6MT06, alot of good info!

The thought of owning a G35 in auto trim seem like such a waste, (no offense to the auto owners, I know you guys can hold your own!).

I do plan to own the car for a long time and the navigation would definetely help when going to that new restaurant. But as others mentioned, I can always go aftermarket with that. Also, I read on this forum that a guy was able to piece together an OEM navigation system for under 1k. So it's certainly feasible....

Looks like I'll be getting a 6MT soon!
