do you people not pay attention to your cars?

it will downshift as many times as necessary to keep your a$$ from stalling
it will NEVER upshift even if you hit redline

so if you put it in 5th and slow down enough, it will drop to 3rd and then 1st when you come to a complete stop

yeah. the older transmissions including the older tiptronic tranies were like this when you put them in manual mode, but not for this car.

I think he wants to make sure he can go to redline without having the car shift to the next gear for him.

f@ck you! But I think you're right!

I usually just throw it back to manual mode when I'm slowing down so I don't remember. I think it down shifts like you stated but it wont go through every gear, it jumps.

Why make some simple question into something more complicated?

As far as 5AT shifting goes...
03-04 will shift up for you [you can floor the car in any MM gear and once it gets near redline it will shift.] These models only hold out the gear longer, and will down shift for you as you come to a stop, usually skipping 2nd and going from 3rd to 1st.
The 04.5 TCM [Transmission Control Module] has updated software that will bang off the revlimiter in any ManualMode gear. It downshifts just like the earlier models, usually skipping 2nd.
05+ has all that the 04.5 does with the aid of rev-matching, for smoothness.
Each year differs alittle. Also remember that the TCM adapts to a drivers habbits. How fast it shifts up or down is dependent on how you drive your car most of the time. Unplug the battery for 24 hours, then plug it back in, start the car, and haul *** through the gears a few times and the shifts will seem much firmer since the old data was erased and its starting your learning habbits from scratch. Eventually it will return to slower, sluggish shifts.

As for the original poster. Like other said, you CAN hit redline in MM. In D you should be able to get close, but it will shift about 200RPM before the actual "red" "line" on the tach. In ManualMode you can actually go 100-200RPM over the "red" "line" drawn on the gauge. If you cannot get over 6500RPM in either Drive or MM, something is wrong with the car.

The ECU upgrade you might be thinking of is TechnoSquare. They have an upgrade that will let you reach 7100RPM.
haha. You just made it even more complicated because what you describes was only for the sedans The coupe (03-07) has always been just like the 04.5 TCM and will never upshift for you in manumatic mode. It will downshift to keep from stalling.

Let's butcher some more... Hey Homie, I have an 03.5 Sedan, it will bounce off the rev limiter until you run out of gas (again, don't ask me how I know). Now, I have to admit, I did have a TCU firmware upgrade, but I'm pretty sure it was like that before.

you can already redline in manual mode, all you have to do is accelerate until your engine reaches redline?
