Looking for clutch that requires MORE pedal pressure
Looking for clutch that requires MORE pedal pressure
Looking for some recommendations based on those of you who have aftermarket clutches. I do not want a lightweight flywheel, just the clutch. What i'm looking for is a clutch that:
1. Isn't soft like the stock clutch - requires some effort and grabs harder.
2. Has a very low engagement point
3. Won't have an great amount of chatter or shaking when taking off in 1st gear.
Based on the mixed reviews I've read, I am leaning towards the Nismo clutch. However, I would be fairly happy with something that feels the same way as the ACT street clutch I had on my 96' Infiniti I30 (essentially a nissan maxima). Any recommendations would be appreciated.

ACT or Centerforce stage 2 will get the job done. As far as the clutch chattering in first there isn't much that can be done because our 6mt's are naturally noisy.
This is what Im planning on getting when the time comes. The whole thing is balanced together then packaged and sold as a kit.

ogura racing clutch 400-light.
orc makes the nismo clutch and they are very similar. the light series would be an organic disk and is the full clutch assembly including flywheel. (retail $1260)
my second choice would be carbonetic carbon single plate. (retail $1730)
soon carbonetic will be coming out with a carbon oem clutch replacement, so you can use it with your oem flywheel.
if you are interested in the orc clutch, contact them at oguraracingclutchusa@gmail.com, they are in the process of getting things set up in the US right now.
for carbonetic i can take care of that brand no problem

I've got a clutchmasters stage1 organic clutch. It is very grabby, and engagement is lower than stock. After ~13k miles on the clutch, it starts to engage just above the halfway point. The entire engagement area is very small, however, and can be touchy to drive for those not used to it.
And you want a stiff clutch? This is the one for you. After I installed the SS clutch line, it's firm as hell. I've had it for 9 months of daily driving, and my left leg can still get sore in traffic.

Get the stock 2003 clutch
Ok seriously, besides the others (orc, act, etc) I'd highly recommend the Tilton setup, if you can still find one. I ditched mine after 10k, it honestly was annoying to drive for how hard it was in traffic. I see your from AZ, so I'll sum it up with this, I sit in I-17 traffic daily at 12:30 PM. Have to go 25 miles down it. Tilton was not the right clutch for that. For you however, it might be exactly what your looking for.
