Indiana Winter
Re: Indiana Winter
While I'm not from Indy, Chicago weather isn't much better; scratch that, it's worse.
I have the 18" wheels, so my only option for the winter would have been to buy 18" snow tires. Rather than drop the cash on those, I bought a semi-junker car (97? Mitsu Mirage) for $1K. Not only is this car front wheel drive, but it saves my G35 from all the salt and black crap they put on the roads here in Chicago. You have to pay the extra insurance on the car, but in the long run not only will it save you from buying a set of expensive snow tires, it will also save your Coupe from undercarraige and body damage due to the salt and other crap the put on the roads here in winter...

Re: Indiana Winter
haha projectfusion... true true. the NW is like a place all its own - not quite indy, not quite illinois. i went to college at loyola and lived in chicago. NW indiana was like my last gas stop before i hit the city. anyway, they always did a horrible job of snow removal and cars ended up bluish because of salt they used (lol which is why i applaud indy). so yeah, the region has crappy weather compared to central indy. but those northeast blizzards are still top in my book, even though the chicago blizzard of '99 kept us stuck in the house for days. Re: Indiana Winter
Glad to see some more Indiana folks popping up. I guess it took us getting rid of Geo to get some more involvement. Anyway, someone asked earlier, I live on the southside and i now work in Franklin unfortunately. I love my job, but hate Franklin. I still miss my nice window office dowtown. Oh well.

Re: Indiana Winter
I went to college in the U.P. of Michigan right on Lake Superior so I know how bad a winter can be. And N.W. IN isn't much. I remember in '98 I was literally the only one on the roads going up and down route 30 carting friends to school and I kept thinking to myself where are all the Hoosiers??
Re: Indiana Winter
Northeasterner here from Montreal, Canada. Yup, what a weekend it was. Glad to hear that you think we hold the record for worst snow conditions. If you guys wanted to test your traction control, last weekend would have been the time to do it over here. In fact, the post "G35c sucks in snow" is mine, BUT, beware. I am claiming that only because I am rolling on 18" winters, which was a stupid move on my part. What was I expecting with a 45 profile in the winter. Anyhow, if you go with 17's and winters you should be fine. If you are like me and cannot drive with black winter rims (for the look), then I suggest to pick up some stock 17's and slap those on the car. That should do the job. If you want to find out how 18's winters perform on the G, read my post and you'll find out the details...not too good....
BTW, we got anywhere from 30-60 cm (depending on where you live) in Montreal. I was one of the unluckier ones that had the higher numbers. If I wanted to go skiing, all I had to do is go outside and head down the black diamond hills (snow banks) that the snow plows left for me......
Counting the days till spring :-)

Re: Indiana Winter
Hey, I'm not the one is showing up after you left. I'm just trying to make some reasonable deductions on why all of the sudden the Indy G contigent has grown. You have any other ideas?

Re: Indiana Winter
Every Monday night we get together at the Beer Sellar. Well, try to at least. I haven't been in the past couple of weeks for various reasons, but I do plan on getting back there at somepoint. G35girl needs to show up too. I don't know where she has been hiding lately. Your welcome to join us anytime. Thank geobau for getting it all going. But now he has abandoned us and left us to fend for ourselves.

Re: Indiana Winter
Lucci (bartender at the Sellar) baked me cookies for my last week there, and OH MY LORD the last Monday was AWESOME. All of my friends were in for thanksgiving, so we had quite a few people, g35girl included. We stayed til 3am and ended up building up quiiite a tab, even though Lucci bought a whole bunch of drinks for us. Great place, great people, great beer.

Re: Indiana Winter
Sorry I missed it. I had a last minute business thing come up that sent me to Chicago for the weekend. I actually didn't find out that I would be going until about 7:30 that night. The following weekend I was in Cleveland and then this past Monday I was planning on going, but I was pretty sick and didn't really feel like it. That is 3 in a row that I have missed. Well, I will be there on the 22nd. and I am trying to get g35girl to go, but evidently she is too busy studying for finals to bother with us right now.

Re: Indiana Winter
Had a great experience this weekend in our 2 inch snow fall in Indy. It handled great! I had trouble even getting the slip light to come on. Really had to slam on the brakes to even get the anti-locks to engage. Very happy with the all weather 17s! They bite bretty darn good! Got a Mazda as a winter beater and the G was way better than that car. It slipped like crazy. Tried to get my wife to race me in the Mazda vs the G but she wouldn't do it. Women! No fun!
Beer Sellar on Monday nights. Who do we look for if we stop by?

Re: Indiana Winter
My brother in laws got a Z and I got a G. Tough call. I like 'em both. I bought the G simply because on a side by side comparison, I liked the way it looked better. Plus, unless you buy the Z roadster you can't even get a sun roof. I also think the G is a better value.
Re: Indiana Winter
If you go in to the Sellar, go up to the bartender (blond woman) after 9pm, and ask if she's Lucci (pronounced Loo-chee). Tell her George from Vanderbilt sent ya, and she'll point you towards the usual crowd, if they're there.
