Indiana Winter

I want the staight skinny here. I live in Indiana where we only get 3-4 inches of snow at a time. I'm not a rich man, but could swing the G35 coupe. If I use common sense, can I get to work by using the All weather 17s that came on the car? I got one minor hill, otherwise it is flat stop/go. Traffic flow on a good day is only about 35mph. Does turning of the ATC help or hinder? No snow here yet. Holding my breath.

Re: Indiana Winter

I live in Indy and last year we had about 14 inches on the ground at once, which for us is a whole lot. I drove my G, with the 17's and stock wheels and had absolutely no problems at all. It drove in the snow better than my old Ford Ranger.

You should be fine as long as you don't have the Pilot sports that come on the 18's.

Where about in Indiana are you from?

Re: Indiana Winter

I am in Indianapolis, and I just ordered some 18" Dunlop Winter Sport M3s from Tire Rack ($413.00 incl. tax and shipping for four (4) tires). I am putting on the snow tires b/c of my past experience with a Lexus SC400 in St. Louis during winter. That car was pretty much useless with even one inch on the ground. There were a few nights of very nervous driving that convinced me to get dedicated snow tires and wheels. Of course, traction control systems have improved since then, but I don't want to be in a position of having to leave my G on the side of the road or worse, stuck in traffic.

Re: Indiana Winter

Thanks Ryan! Yeah, last winter was awful. I live in Carmel. Think I've seen you around? I keep tabs on the ones I see and I've seen a red/willow a few times in my area. I do have the stock 17's.

Re: Indiana Winter

I'm also in Indianapolis and ordered the same winter tires from TireRack. Snow tires are an absolute must if you have the 18" Pilots!

Re: Indiana Winter

Thanks for the input so far everybody! But I want to emphasize. I HAVE ALL WEATHER 17s. I know the Pilots ain't made for the snow. Ryan gave me some good news about his 17's. What I'm looking for here is ACTUAL experience in snow with the 17" all weather tires. Please don't tell me to buy snow tires if I have the 18" Pilots. I ain't got em. FYI...new to the forum. Good vibes already!

Man, I leave Indy and everyone pops up on the board. I won't take this personally

I've got a sedan w/ the winter/sport 17s and I went driving around a mountain town for a few days without any problems. VDC light came on once or twice as I was pulling from a stopsign, but other than that it handled like a dream.

Re: Indiana Winter

actually, indiana winters are mild for me. try living in northeast jersey for 16 years. you get used to snow and sub-zero temperatures pretty fast. don't get me wrong, i'm not jocking indiana because it's not the most pleasing state to me either. but compared to others, we are quite lucky. just ask the northeasterners about their past weekend weather. poor guys. and that weather was meant for us. thanks, northeast people, for taking the hit.

Re: Indiana Winter

Don't take it personally, Geo, I am a recent transfer to Indy and I only got my G about 2 months ago. I work Downtown in the AUL bldg. Sorry I missed the Indy meet and Sellar sessions. I live pretty close to Castleton.

Hey G35girl try NW Indiana :-) It's completely different in the winter compared to the rest of Indiana.
