6mt launch & shift techniques
all i have is a z tube and i'm dragging my friend's stock is350 in 2 weeks. i'm pretty curious about that 4.9 0-60 that was published a couple months back.
i haven't exactly had the best luck with launches on the 6mt.
what do you guys normally do?
as i understood it in the honda days it was rev and drop the clutch. but those days are over.
for the launch i was told to rev high and when the light is about to turn green let the rev drop to about 2-3k --> let the clutch go til it catches --> drop clutch --> mash gas
on the shift to 2nd do you guys shift and drop the clutch?
please do share your techniques.

I doubt you are going to win against the 350 unless your friend really can't drive.
But to launch, hold the rev at around 3~3.5K. When the light turns green feather out the clutch while try not to hit the throttle any hard than you are already holding, wait till the car grips, slam on gas and dump the rest of the gears as fast as you can let the clutch out.

that is350 stands a great chance of beating you. But i have good luck with comming out at a about 3500 rpm, (at least with my tires) just a little bit of a squill and then it digs in and pulls out.
Unless you give some serious practice as to your launch and hope your buddy sucks at driving, that is going to be a tough race from what i understand

i doubt my buddy will have a hard time driving the is350 being he only needs to mash the gas. i just have a hard time taking in all those 0-60 times that every source publishes.
if you do a vehicle comparison on lexus.com, you will find that the 0-60 for the is350 is 5.6
if you just click the is350 on lexus.com you will find that it's advertised as 5.3
to me it's all marketing bull until you really see first hand.

Lexus basically under estimated their performance.. just like bmw did with the 335i..nothing to go crazy over. just know they are fast.. very fast.. faster than our cars :/
btw, many people said "hope your friend cant drive"..um.. how can you NOT know how to drive an auto. all the IS350 has to do is stump on the gas and its gone.. maybe its just me, but looks like thats alot easier than dropping the clutch.
on a side note, i think the earlier model IS350 are slower. the new 07s are some monsters.. i dont know why but the test #s from the mags are putting it right where 335i is from 0-60 and 1/4 in the low 13s.. which is pretty insane.
im hoping the new G37 will put us back in the game

i mean if lexus knew it was able to do 4.9s wouldn't they advertise it?

i thought lexus traction controls were permanently on
i mean there is a button to turn it off but it really isn't 100% off

I make sure VDC is off then let go right under 3K and it launches very well, the clutch grabs hard and the tires chirp just alittle and I'm gone... Yes, you can take the is350, I have done it to my co-workers Lexis more than a few times and have only 2 intake mods, all else is stock on my G.

I don't know about that, i've been in the game the whole time and have the same car as you guys... The 'IS' is fast but can be beat by a fairly stock 6MT G with good fuel and a good driver; I can take that IS350 any day on our commute home. (Unless I'm in my truck and then I still can cause' there is a high curb I can drive over and cut behind some stores which saves at least 15 minutes)

Man I don't know and I can't talk times, just can tell you like it is; the IS can be beat by a nearly stock 6MT G...
