Dealership playing games with me...

I went in on Monday to test drive the G35 Coupe and the G35X. I leaned toward the Coupe of course, and wanted to make a deal right there. Dealership wouldn't deal. I went back in on Thursday and tried to make a deal on the G35X. Dealership wouldn't deal.

I told them I don't want the coupe no more on Thursday b/c I live in Colorado where there is plenty of snow.

Okay, today (saturday) the salesman says he'll take $1k off any coupe. I said thats great, but I am not interested in the coupe anymore. What can we do on a G35X? The salesman said, I'll talk to my manager and calls me back and said they can't deal on a G35X.

So in short, they discount something that I don't want anymore, but wont discount what I want. Good game those F%$kers like to play. They are the only dealership in Denver.

Hey you can purchase the car from another dealership (even out of state) thats willing to cut you a better deal and or offer you better service. In most cases they'll also work with you in delivering the car to your door step, sometimes FREE of charge. You then can always take it to any dealerships for service.....

Yeah, Grubbs is giving good deals, but I do have a trade-in. I don't want to drive down there and get ripped off on my trade-in. My true market value is $15,700. Infiniti of Denver is willing to give me $13,000, I asked why? any problems and they said nope, thats how much we are willing to give you.

Re: Dealership playing games with me...

These days the blue book on a car, really doesnt play much of a role other than give you a pretty wide ball park on what your car "should" be worth. It really sucks, but EVERY dealership, by their own management policy, LOW-***** every single trade-in, unless what you got is a high ticket and or high demand vehicle, at which maybe you'll get close to book on it.

Bottom line is they want to make as much $$$ on your car and off you as possible. If its not on the sale, it'll be on the trade in, or if they're lucky on both. Simple as that, and if you give in, well then you deserve to be taken for a ride! When trading a car, be firm on the book trade price. If anything, allow a 10-15% discount, but that's it!

You gotta turn the tables around and start calling the shots! Dealerships hate that, but it does work as long as you stick with it.

I have to put the car under my name because I'm financing it. I wish I could go out of state with a guarntee that I will atlest get a certain amount. When I talked to out of state dealerships, they told me I would only get about $10k on my trade in.

I think what he's saying is just have someone else go in and get a quote.... then you step in to put the car in your name.

in regards to the dealership, yeh they're just playing games with you.. some dealerships will jus tell u to go somewhere else for a deal, since demand on these cars are pretty constant, at least around the bay area..

for the blue book value of the car, i was easily able to get top blue book value and i even negotiated a thousand over.. yeah, i know trade-in value is still less than personal sale value, but with the extra grand i negotiated, the difference was negligible.. also, i even got a grand off of MSRP.. this was this past summer, so not bad in my opinion..

jus keep tryin different dealerships..

Re: Dealership playing games with me...

Only one dealership in Denver. There will be 2 new ones in March. I am considering waiting until then, I have read that new dealerships give out deals, but with my luck, they might not even give any deals.

I don't know if I should wait or not, if I wait my trade-in would lose value. But I might get a decent deal on the G35.

Re: Dealership playing games with me...

If you want the most of your used car, don't go through a dealership, sell it on your own. I'll tell you why...if the true market value on your car is 15,7K, that's what someone will buy it for right? Now, in business, if you sell it to the dealership, they have to sell it for 15,7K. They are in the business of making money, therefore, they can only offer 13K in order to make it worth their time to sell it for 15K (insurance, liability, detail). It also takes away from their new car sales.
Regarding your price, supply and demand...if the demand is higher than the supply, they can play games because there's always someone that going to come in and buy that car for the sticker price. Where else are they going?

My TMV of $15K plus is for the trade-in, at private party it would be $18K plus.

Re: Dealership playing games with me...

As a former car salesman I can tell you that sending in someone else to get the quote won't work...A car deal isn't a car deal until the BANK decides to buy the deal (unless you're paying cash) and if you decide to play a game and run in there at the last minute to sign for the deal they'll just void the deal...As far as the trade, it isn't just that the dealership wants to make money...I've actually given more than ACV for a car before- we just buried money somewhere else...Sometimes a dealership wants to deal, sometimes you get a salesman dealing with an old school, arrogant desk manager that doesn't want to deal...It also depends on the sales prior to yours that day or the previous weekdays, and what the status is of other deals working...This business isn't meant to help the customer...You're just a checkbook to them...It sucks that the dealership isn't working with you on a deal, but that's the way it goes down sometimes...You can go back in and try to "turn the tables" but dealerships have seen it all...If you start slapping around the salesman they'll send in a more seasoned one...If that guy is losing control a sales manager will be sent in...If that doesn't work a desk manager will come in...And that guy has a boss as well...If they get frustrated they say whatever and pull the trigger, but these guys love the sale and pushing the customer into the direction they want to go...I've seen ONE good deal...It was on a Z and it was a close friend of mine...We worked the dealership and it paid off- 3 weeks of him coming in, driving the Z, and then playing the unsure guy...Then one day we only had 3 Track models and I called him up and we took the dealership down...Too bad you don't have a friend in an Infiniti dealership

Re: Dealership playing games with me...

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try and sell my car through the internet and the newspaper. I rather wait then get ripped by the people at the dealership. I only have 3 more months until the other two dealerships in Colorado open.

Re: Dealership playing games with me...

I feel for you man, but you have got to broaden your horizons!! Nothing has leveled the playing field for car buyers like the internet! I say pitt them against each other to keep the heat off of you. By that I mean open negotiations with several dealerships, online and local...never discuss a trade until you get the deal you want on your new ride...get all details in writing (verified by sales person...very important)..try to get other dealerships to match or beat the others best offers until you find one that does the trick.

As the person w/the money you gotta find dealerships that WANT to sell cars...a single dealership in place like Denver can hold on to makin' top dollar for the G35x, for a while ...but dealerships in California may order one at a good price for you just to open up a market for themselves...ya gotta grind'em man, don't take no for an answer and stop feeling sorry for yourself!!! Somebody wants to sell a car, you gotta find them... both my G and my wife's SUV came from outside our city limits...we went out of state to pick up my wife vehicle, small town in NC...best buying experience I've ever had and got the exact vehicle we wanted at the price we wanted!!

The dealership will jack you on a trade-in that valuable. If they won't treat you right, sell to an individual. Push to shove, allow the time it takes to sell your car for the two new dealerships to open and use the strategy above on them...be nice and curteous...but ya gotta grind'em!! Best of luck!

G35S 6MT!! DIAM GRAPH/ GRAPH BELLS WHISTLES...DEFINETLY WORTH THE WAIT!!!

Thanks gman,
I will try to sell it through the newspaper. I really want to go with Grubbs, they have the exact car I want and are willing to take 2k off a coupe.
