same here took me about 20 minutes of shoveling and 30 minutes to turn around and move 5-6 feet. This suck.. I shut the VDC off and my car was still cutting off..

yup, the 18's suck, the 17's are actually pretty good in the snow as far as i'm concerned. just toss some sandbags in your trunk (w/open garbage bags under it just in case) and you're pretty much ok, as far as i'm concered. i'm in jersey...we've had pretty bad snowfall and i'm driving around alright.

That's pretty much the consensus of many members who stated as such during the last snow storm a week ago. And, like many members recommended, get snow tires and driving in the snow is at least tolerable.

If you are planning to drive around in snow, you should definitely get the snow tires. You won't have any problem with snow tires.
Otherwise, don't even think about driving it in snow.

Re: Got stuck in a snow storm today...

Forget about snow tires. We just got over 40 cm of snow here, and as much as I love the G35 (just picked mine up 2 weeks ago), this car is not made to handle winter at all. I have Pirelli P210's, one of the best winter tires out there, and this car just doesn't move, the VDC simply cuts off your gas so you don't move anywhere. Most of the time I find myself removing the VDC and just spinning my tires to get somewhere. I think next year I will try to buy some used 17's (OEM) and see how they perform versus the 18's. One thing is for sure, I have had this car for 2 weeks now, and that FX is looking sweeter and sweeter by the minute. I guess I'll be saying the opposite in the summer though.

Re: Got stuck in a snow storm today...

After a 3 hour 22 mile drive in the snow last week and having to be out of a parking lot this past Saturday. I ordered a set of 17" Blizzak snow tires with nice wheels to replace the 18" Michelin pilots for the winter. The cost from Tire Rack is $1400. The only other option was to buy a "winter car" or move to the Bahamas. This was the most economical choice. Hopefully I will get them before the next snow or.....it probably wont snow again because I bought them!

Blizzaks (18") work fine in the snow. Got them right after Thanksgiving and the past 2 NYC snows (12+" & 10") have been no problem (using common sense of course). The VDC light rarley went on and then only for a second until the traction kick in. I drove this car last winter in 2"'s of snow and could not move!!! Remarkable difference with snows.

Neils, it sounds like you are the only guy having issues with the coupe with winter tires. I suggest you review the rating on those Pirelli's. Otherwise, you might be doing something wrong in snow.

dude the Pirelli youve got is a total junker of a snow tire..its made for high performance winter use...on dry roads...YOu want a real snow tire like a Blizzak Mz01 or Ws50...soft sidewalls..Q rated..but will dig in deep in the snow...

Re: to neil

Thanks for the great input guys. Two conclusions for me, drop the idea of running 18's with snows and down grade to 17's. and second conclusion, get rid of the Pirelli's and go Blizzaks or Michelins....

For now, it's me versus the snow with my 18" winters. I park underground at work, with a medium slope on the ramp leading to the garage, I could barely make it up that medium sloped ramp, and there was about 4" of snow. So much for those low profile Pirelli's huh.. You can bet that I'll be looking in the summer for someone who will be upgrading their 17's, would like to use the stock 17's for winter next year. Someone suggested 215/55/17 (as opposed to my 245/45/18)

3 months to go boys, March is always the worst storms though, God help me....

Re: to neil

Hi Neil.

Don't buy Michelin. They are good on ice, but average on deep snow. As you live in Montréal, you can either buy Bridgestone Blizzak or Toyo Garritt. Both are available in the following sizes: 215/55/17, 225/50/17 or 225/55/17. Toyo are more expensive, but will last longer. I repeat: Pirelli 210 245/45/18 aren't good enough for the canadian winters.

Good luck.
