Auto trans? Is there any joy?

I'm just wondering if anyone out there with an automatic transmission in the G35SC is enjoying their car? I went and drove the stick and auto and there was no comparison in my eyes. The 6 speed completely transformed this car.

It's not about street racing with me either. It's about driver involvement and being able to have control over the car. I was just bored driving the auto. Maybe it's because I don't sit there and talk on my cell all the time when I drive. To each is own I guess.

You did notice the auto has a manual mode right? Drop it over into the manual mode and the auto can be just as exciting as the 6MT IMHO.

Yeah.. It didn't do what I wanted it to do though. I revved the thing in first and shifted about 500 rpm before redline and the thing ended up bouncing off the rev limiter before it shifted. This definitely isn't an SMG. I'd be totally happy with an SMG system like on the E46 M3.

To me, the manumatic is nothing more than a fancy way to drop the trans into L1 and click it forward into L2. You just click it with this trans instead of moving the lever forward. It still doesn't give me the control that I want over the trans unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong.. The car is a very nice car either way, it's just that I think the stick is a lot more fun to drive and a lot more involving.

I have a DP auto G35c and I love it. The color is nothing like what you see and line, and the A/T is not as bad as I was expecting. The car is a blast to drive, I use the manumatic all of the time

I doubt I will get bored of this car.

I LOVE THE G35c

No doubt the manual transmission is more fun on an open road. But---what is fun on the open road can get downright irritating in commuter traffic. The obvious solution is to have one of each!

While driving in bumper to bumper traffic on the hollywood fwy friday night for 1.5 hours... I was SOOOOOOO Glad I had an auto. Depressing a cluth pedal 5000 times in one hour is not my idea of "Fun". If I lived out in the country somewhere with no city traffic, I'd get a stick.

Agreed, that's why my performance car is a stick!

amen! I couldn't agree with you more. If the G35C was my only car I would have gotten A 6MT. When I want to rev through gears I just take out my other car:

I enjoy the 6 speed except in stop and go traffic. Cameron38 is right on that note. I think that you can "drive" either car. The difference is you always have to "drive" a standard. Although the standard can be (is) more fun when crusin, you pay for it when you just want to get to work in rush hour traffic. After a month though I am very pleased that I got the 6 spd.

Re: Auto trans? Is there any joy?

Yeah.. I guess if you had to be in stop and go traffic all day. I still don't find that a chore though. I've been driving stick for so long that it's just second nature to me. Unless the car has an overly heavy clutch that tires my leg out, I don't have a problem with it.

Besides.. I already have a "winter" car with an auto trans.

Re: Auto trans? Is there any joy?

For me the solution was easy: Have 1 car with 2 modes:
Automatic & Manumatic Not as much fun as the 6M/T
but never tiring. .... Enjoy.....
