When I first start my car in the morning and back out the driveway, and drive for few seconds I hear this loud noise from the right side of car. It's the sound when metal grinds against pavement and it's like the sound I hear when my friends corolla grinds against a speed bump. I read that some people get tapping noises and this doesn't sound like tapping noise. Can someone clear this up? THanks a lot

 

It's the VDC self diagnostic as explained on pages 5-21 and 5-22 of the owners manual.

Recently I've been getting a fairly loud "clunk" right when I start my 6MT. I don't drive it very often, and the noise only occurs after the car has sat unused for a while. Does this ound like the same thing?

 

It does say in the owners manual that this noise may be accompanied by a 'clunk' as part of the diagnostic.

I've also noticed a 'clunk' when the car first moves and breaks free of the brake-pads sticking to the dics.

I experienced the brake thing once too

 

I experienced the same problems as hyunwoo8521 and BMW3toG35C. I will read the manual. The clunk sound when I first start my car after not using it for a while sounds really bad, but it doesnt happen all the time.

WOW! Thanks so much for the reference to the manual on 5-22. I have been trying ot figure out what this was. I have read the manual like 3 times cover to cover while on the *******. I guess I wasn't paying that much attention. I was going to bring my car in to get it looked at after one particular clunk noise.

hmm... I suggest if the problem is not fixed, have the dealer take a look at it.

 

Same here guys I wouldn't worry on that particular noise. Is it me or are our cars a Orchestra if "interesting" noises? [img]/w3timages/icons/mad.gif[/img]

I have a 6MT as well that clunks when you start it. Usually when it's sat overnight. I hear the clunk right after the starter disengages and the engine fires. I've tried to have the dealer look at it but of course they can't mimic the problem. I've got right at 15000 miles. It drives me nuts!
