JDM current gen Skylines are also Normally Aspirated, and you can't get the coupes there in all wheel drive. They are basically just like our cars except badged different, RHD, and I believe you can get them with smaller motors if you get the non-GT versions.

Nissan did what, IMO, they needed to do when they released the G to stay afloat. They cut costs by using the Z platform, and increased sales by making the Z ugly, and G puuurdy. (that last bit is sort of biased)

Anyways, nissan shouldn't have really released our cars as a skyline, because I don't think it deserves the badging. Then again, the new Z isn't near worthy of following the heritage of the old Z. (think z32TT)

Keep in mind that Nissan faced bankruptcy, and merged w/ Renault. A company not really known for super awesome world known sports cars.

If you thought that was bad, wait until they start asking, "Wow, is that the Altima Coupe?"

1. The G35 Coupe is esentially a 350Z with a little more fat on her as s.
2. It is the current JDM Skyline but it is normally aspirated, plus it is not offered in AWD......yet (Infiniti Micheal)
3. When has the Skyline ever shared a platform/chassis with a Z car ? (could get flamed on this one)^^
4. I love my car it just seems to have no real identity other than Skyline slapped on the back
This car was controvercial when if first came out in japan for many of your reasons, but since everybody has loved it. The normally aspirated motor makes as much power as the rb26det made when it came out. I think Nissan was originally using the G to substitute a new z 2+2 car and bridge the gab between the skyline and the z brothers. Frankly the chasis is great and the new GT-R is based off (though modded) from our same chasis and MR/FM (yes I know the G is a front engine car, but it qualifies as a mid engine car) setup. Yes the skyline shares many features with the Z, but it still different, and much classier than the Z car.

Another thought is....
Which car was designed first, we think it was the Z car, but what if the Z car was based on the new skyline? We have no proof one way or the other, but if the Z car was based on the V35 skyline, then the Z would be the bastard child right?

I distinctly remember reading somewhere that the Z is actually built from a shortened version of the G's chassis. While the Z may have been released first, Nissan had more in mind when developing a more global platform.

This is right on the mark for the Skyline. While single-turbo, RWD GT-S models were offered at one time, it's always been only when the GT-R model hits that the Skyline really heats up. Now that the GTR is transforming into it's own model, the Skyline pretty much stays where it started... ...but could serve as filler between it and the GTR with something similar to a GT-S type of model.

The global platform concept seems extremely popular with automakers these days. It has it's financial benefits.

With the GTR being it's own model, there no longer seems to be that anticipation of legendary performance associated with the Skyline name. Time will tell what's in store for it.

ugly Z door handles!!
+1 on the door handles

My 2c on this...I don't really believe you could take the body of the Z and put it on a G.I believe a the wheelbase is longer, and b it has a wider track. I'm pretty sure it does. So goodluck fitting that body on the G. The engine is just about all it shares, and who makes it.I know there are a few more things it does share, but it's not a Z. Granted Ford owns Jaguar, but you wouldn't think a Jaguar xtype 3.0 is a Ford taurus. I know the xtype is just a crappier ford taurus, but it's the same idea as here. They are both good cars, but the Z doesn't have our wheelbase or track.

why does everyb0dy keep sayin that

this was never really about the Z likeness though. It was just how I though the G is not a true skyline when compared with past, nor is it a Z car. I think B00stedjustin hit teh nail on teh head though, a few post before.
