Custom HKS exhaust installed

Hey guys, did this about a week ago. Got this idea from a 350z owner. Installed a universal carbon fiber HKS muffler w/ titanium tip. The muffler shop I went to was top knotch, They did all mandrel bends with a resonator and angled the can like I wanted it. Fabricated a custom Y pipe as well, which is 2.5 inch, going into a step up to a 3" pipe, resonator, then to the exhaust. I coudnl't be more happier, it sounds perfect. Very deep and it gets loud when I step on it, not too bad when crusing around, no droning. I noticed immediatly a gain on the butt dyno, the car just seemed to want to pull to redline like nothing. I was going to do dual with this muffler, but there seems to be no room on the right side to put another one, there is a part of the fuel system in the way. I'm actually happy, cause the single looks way better in my opinion. WAY lighter than stock! I'll post underbody shots when I get them from the shop owner (didn't have my camera on me at the time).

By the way. The second muffler I bought I still have, sealed in its package. If anyone is interested, let me know.. I need to get rid of it...

Interesting, but I kind of like the dual exhaust look. Why didnt you go dual? How does it sound? Can you post a sound or video clip?

Narkotic I love it that looks sweet!!!
I forgot where I saw the thread but it was saying that the single exhaust setup is a better track setup? Not sure but just do a search on the topic!

Anyways looks nice! Congrad!

I don't personally have a video/audio clip, but the person that did it on his 350z made one. Click the bottom link to download. It sounds like a damn supra.. I couldn't be more happier. The single exhaust looks more gangsta to me

I agree. Dual exhausts just add weight.. Theres no real world performance to be made doing a dual exhaust on a vq35...

that looks sweet pete. Single exhuast can be better because its not as free flowing as 2 exhuast. Creates more backpressure and improves power in the low end. Alot of s2000 owners conver to single as well.

It's not for me but a mod is a mod so congrats. The weight is definitely a good point. I'm looking forward to seeing if the same people jump all over you like they did the guy with the CF hood. You can put the mods in the same category. Weight savings but a little "civic" looking.

Re: Custom HKS exhaust installed

That looks really sweet on tht 350z. I like the exhaust, but for me I don't like how there is a dual exhaust cut out on our existing car. =\ Great mod.

Their's no real world performance benefit from 3" pipe diameter running NA on 3.5 liters of displacement. True duals work and make real world power on these cars when all the elements of proper exhaust design and flow dynamics are applied. When doing something custom, going for a certain sound quality, or just wanting something different then the other guys, it's important to know what good flow dynamics means and how you kill it or promote it, if you want to make real power.
