G35c sucks in snow

I know this has been discussed before, but man, I just got this car 2 weeks ago, have the best snow tires money can buy (Pirelli Winter 210's), and this thing is sliding all over the place. With limited-slip, Traction Control, and Vehicle Dynamic Crap (VDC), I thought there would be some sort of stability. I press the gas and the VDC cuts it off, leaving me driving nowhere. I had to remove my VDC in all occasions, and floor it in order to spin the hell out of my tires to get even a little traction. This car is definitely not cut out for winters. Mind you, winter in Canada is extreme, we just got 40-50 cm of snow, so that is extreme conditions. I mean, I can't even get up my driveway, that's bad.

That VDC really pisses me off, I mean, if I can't move, what's the point of having it. I know most of you love it, but that's probably because you don't have the winters we have here.

Oh well, I hope my love for this car in the summer will outweigh the horrible traction it has in the winter.

Any others with my dilemna????

Neil

Re: G35c sucks in snow

whole post is a falsehood. the VDC helps out A LOT. i don't have much more to say, tough luck for you bro. sounds like you're a little heavy on the gas pedal.

Re: G35c sucks in snow

agree. i have the sedan goodyear all season tires, not even winter tires, and I went driving in a parking lot full of snow and ice. worked great both w/ and w/o VDC. easy on the gas, and a little common sense as you live on the edge of physics.

Re: G35c sucks in snow

I think the thing that I am noticing with past posts where people did in fact have problems in the snow is that 18's are not the way to go for winter. The sedan has 17's, and I think those coupes that have the 17's are getting through the snow as well. So I guess next year I might opt to get rid of the 18's and down grade to the 17's with winters and see what happens (only for winter of course). I do not have a heavy foot (at least not in the winter). Like I said before, I can't even drive this thing at 2 KM and creep past a snow plow on the street or even slowly drive up my driveway, we're talking turtle steps here with brand new winters.......

Oh well, counting the months till spring..:-)

Re: G35c sucks in snow

yup, 17's are quite good if you ask me. i would never opt for the 18's cuz i'd end up changing the rims anyway.

i pity those who paid for the 18's and changed the rims. what a waste of cash. like paying for the upgraded stereo, and replacing it.....i can't stand it.

my 18s on my coupe suck...
The VDC pissed me off too. Won't let me move anywhere...especially on inclines. I had to stop, slam on the gas and the VDC kicks in and I have to stop again. I did that like 10 times. Pain in da ***...love the car when its dry though hehehehe

Winter must suck in O'Canada. Buy a junker to drive around in the snow. This car really needs to be kept inside when it snows. Hell, I hate taking mine out in the rain.

cliverman right. no snow for G35. leave in garage and take out the 93 Taurus for crappy weather. you'll ruin G35 from salt, cinder and other crap. get a beater.

Re: G35c sucks in snow

I have the 18's and happen to love the rims. Unfortunately I dished out 2 for the 18's and now im paying 1700 for snow 17's. But I don't mind swapping them out 2x a year.

P.S. did you guys know that the 18"s are $840 a piece?

Re: G35c sucks in snow

We just got 30cm(12") of snow in montreal, up to 60cm on the south shore and I drove around in my corolla without having any problems.

My friend's mom who owns a G35c 5AT couldn't even get out of her street.

Most of you guys seem to have enough money to buy a second car so why are you all taking your G out in the salt? Next year I'm going awd.***evil***

Re: G35c sucks in snow

"The Rims" I paid for was actually for the limited slip. The money alone is well worth that.

As for the 18's in snow? I drive all over the midwest and south, including Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas 13 other states. I have no problems with my Alpin Sports on my stock 18's.

Maybe they way you drive is innappropriate for the conditions. Don't floor it or move quickly from a stop. Let off the gas while going under over passes. My wife has a Honda Pilot, its great in the snow, but I can still get it sideways - it all depends on the driver.

Re: G35c sucks in snow

If the winters are so bad there, why did you buy a RWD sports coupe?

Wouldn't a winter beater be a smart choice for your nasty Canadian winters?

Re: G35c sucks in snow

i just got my g 2 weeks ago and i live in michigan. we had our 1st snow only 2 inches this past weekend. i have stock 18s and i havent gotten my snow tires yet. i took it out for a drive in the snow to see exactly what you guys were complaining about and with a little common sence it handled ok. i have the 5at coupe. maybe you guys have the 6mt. now im still going to get snows when they come in because the pilots are like shoes with a leather sole on ice, no tread means slip, simple physics. but the damn thing weighs 3000 lbs! stay light on the gas and you should get to where you need to go - slowly.

don't start no sh*t, won't be no sh*t!

Re: G35c sucks in snow

I was in the same storm in Jersey. My 5AT coupe with 17's and all seasons ran great. It sounds like the original poster hasn't quite grasped the finer points of driving in snow. You don't gun the engine in snow - especially with 280 horses on call!
