I was driving on my way home tonight when I noticed a Eclipse on my right up ahead a bit, I came up along side of him and passed him going about 40 mph. I noticed he had a aftermarket exhaust as I passed, he changed lanes to get behind me then came up along my left side checking me out. My turn was comming up so I get into the right lane and he pulls behind me and takes the right as well. The street was totally empty so as he pulls along my right side I punch it a little to play, he returns the gesture and rolls his window down. I rolled mine down as well and said how ya doin?. He seemed like a nice guy "younger in his early 20's" and said he was doin good and then told me he has never raced a "G" before, with a smile on his face. I asked what he had in his ride (since I noticed his exhaust) and he replied with a bigger smile "I have a Turbo, how about you". I then told him I was all stock and that he would probably be able to take me with his turbo. I didn't want to seem cocky at all...I then smiled at him and told him to hit it... We were rolling at about 25 mph when we got on it and I kept up with him ( I was maybe a wheel ahead) untill we hit about 50 mph at which time I steadly started to pull away. At 80 we knew I had it and we both slowed down to 25 again. He looked over with a smile on his face and said "wow, I like your car... are you sure it's all stock?". I said yes and told him I only had it about a month or so. He thanked me for my time and the run.I had a left turn ahead and flashed him my break lights, he hit his high beams in return and took a right.

Was cool to come across someone who wanted to talk a bit and didn't have a huge attitude about gettn beat. The guy in my book had alot of class for being younger (I'm 33). I wish I had more run-ins like that.

Well I drive a 5AT 2004 G35C. So you know if you come against a Eclipse, even with a Turbo, you can take him...

no, do not think you can beat an eclipse with a turbo if you happen to stumble upon one. depends on the stage of the turbo, so don't be fooled.

 

wow nice story bro... i was surprised that eclipse guy was pretty nice... i wish i can face some those nice guys on the streets... all i get around me is all the cocky jettas or real old ugly pickup trucks...

 

Not about to take em lightly Serum. Was just a fun drive and a good experience tonight. He was rather quick and it was from a rolling start, not sure how it would have worked out from a dead stop. I actually think he might have stumbled on his downshift at the start as well

Hmm...The post says TT but the story says he said he had A turbo...Which was it? Single or Twin?

He did say turbo.... I was assuming a TT in the title... I will correct it. I did not inspect under his hood tho so I cannot say for sure.

I had an almost identical experience. The car I raced with was actually a Greddy Turbo Eclipse with gauges on the driver column and everything! Our run was pretty even but I pulled away at around 50. It was pretty cool ... with my windows down I could hear his turbo spooling but I pulled away pretty decisively. We stopped at the light where he gave me props and I did likewise. That's what it's all about and that's how it should always be!

 

Racing a stock eclipse GST would be no contest. The G would take the eclipse. Stage 2 and higher mods would be a different story.

 

I owned a '97 Talon TSi (2 liter with single turbo, 5 sp manual) for several years - no mods. 105 ponies per liter. It was fast and I loved that turbo rush. My 5AT coupe is faster.

My previous car was a '97 Eclipse (second generation) Spyder convertible. God I miss the drop top (and to some extent the MT) but the wife has a 3 series cab so I don't miss it *that* much (gave the ol' Cayenne Red to my father in law).

Anyway back to my point, the G is much faster stock vs. stock hehehe.

I recently got out of the dsm scene(diamond star mtrsprts.)aka eclipse and talons. Before I blew it up I had it around 380#s whp. I miss it terriblly. Anyway, the stock eclipse only has 210 at the crank or 170-180 whp. So even if he had an exhaust he prolly only had an intake along w/ it that prolly put him in the 190 whp range. The stock t-25 turbo on the 2G runs out of steam around 90 mph or so. It generates way to much heat at those levels. So of course your coupe will beat him. Next time just look see of he has a fmic, if he does, go ahead and race him and see what happens. That's usually a dead give a way he's got an upgraded turbo, btw, they don't make TT kits for the eclipse. The smallest upgraded turbo he could go w/ is 16g, which tuned correctly by a pocket logger and afc can put 300 plus to the wheels. Most fast eclipse's will look unassuming, just don't race one. There not into bling bling but go go and god help you if you meet heavily modded awd, even then the TT kit won't be enough.
