Tire mileage

I have stock 18s and tires. How many miles should I expect on the tires before replacement?

Re: Tire mileage

You drive like me, you'll get 20k or more. You drive like M. Shumacher you'll get maybe 5k if you're lucky.

Re: Tire mileage

I'd be happy with 20k miles. I don't know how the Pilots compare to the Contis but I suspect the Pilots are softer and faster wearing.
I'm careful, but don't drive slowly and love the cornering ability of the G. I could prolly eke out more miles from these Pilots, but that wouldn't be much fun.

Re: Tire mileage

The Michelin Pilot Sport tires are manufactured to last anywhere between 15k and 20k, depending on how you drive on them. If you are constantly accelerating quick (burn outs), braking hard, and corning tight, then they will not last more than 15k... If you drive the car like it is a Toyota Corrola, then the tires will last more than 20k... I am only talking about the Pilot sports....

These tires come with 10/32's of tread on them, of which it is safe to drive on 8/32's of this rubber (the nub is about 2/32's high)... I just have 8,000 miles on my car and I have used up 3/32's of rubber. That means that I have about 60% of good tread left... Therefore, I am up in that 18-20,000 miles tire life.... I don't drive hard all the time, but I don't drive soft either.... Just a reference point.

Re: Tire mileage

Randy,
The very nature of the Pilot Sport tires is for maximum grip, so the rubber compound is softer and in turn creates faster wear.
There are tires with harder compounds(wear ratings) that you can buy, such as Bridgestone Potenza RE040, Hankook K104 or Falken, they will give similar performance and will last a bit longer. Even the Continental Conti tire is not a bad choice for street duty, it is a softer tire and gives good grip for the price.

But expect a high performance tire to last no more than 20k miles, if you get 30k it will be from easy highway driving.
