New here w/ question I've had for long time

What is it exactly about the z's, fx's, and g35s that give the purring exhaust tone? Is it the mid-pipe or the resonator or something else? I love the sound on my 05 coupe which I'm not going to modify till I can trade it in for a 07+ but I was wondering how to get the purrrrring on my bmw? Please if someone can give a logical, coherent answer and not some waste of time answer saying how much they hate me because I asked a question. (sarcasm..)

It has alot to do with the engine itself, and will be hard to repeat on another car

I was told once that Inline 6's make the sound (ofcourse the G has more to develop the sound). My friend had a vr6 gti that made the sound (but not has good, but purrring none the less).

The G's, Z's and FX's just have a tone of their own that I would say is can not copied at all!

if you want to keep that VQ tone but increase it? The F/I exhaust will
do this for you. just thought Id share

oh ya, engine setup has lots to do with tone. as does the
mid engine placement

er NO.

anyone who thinks FI exhaust sounds remotely stock. need to go back to stock exhaust and listen to it again.

The only exhaust that sounds like a louder stock exhaust is the Nismo.

No other car has the echoing sound that the G/Z/Fx makes.

To answer your question, it's a combination of the resonator and the muffler.

When I had a dent in my midpipe of the nismo exhaust it doesn't echo anymore. So the midpipe and the muffler creates a resonating sound that the G makes.
