Please help.....anybody...

Here is the senario. I hit a small curb on the drivers side, right, no big deal. okay i take the car to NTB to get an alighment. they say my car is jacked. got it. they reccomend that i bring it to the dealer to figure out exactly what the problem is. Okay, not a bad idea, they are all licensed infiniti mechanics, thay will set me straight. I take it to fields infinti in libertyville, IL. I GIVE THEM THE ALIGNMENT PRINTOUT/SPEC SHEET FROM NTB ALONG WITH A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM. I pay the $125.00 diognosis fee. they tell me that DEFINATELY TWO FRONT COMPRESSIONS PISTONS AND PASSENGER WHEEL BEARING HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THEY FURTHER TELL ME, ONCE THAT IS COMPLESE TAKE YOUR CAR TO GO GET ALIGNED, IF THEY STILL CANNNOT ALIGN IT THEN YOU HAVE TO REPLACE YOUR FRONT RIGHT SPINDLE. Okay, finaially,so i buy the parts at whoolesale and pay to have them installed, $570 for the two front compression pistons and right wheel hub bearing, $210 for installation. okay so, $810 total spent so far. i pick up my car from the shop and it turns out that my front left wheel hub bearing is bad too!!! ok thats minimal. I take my car back to NTB to see if they can align it...........they tell me, nothing has changed, your passenger side wheel is sitting about 3/4 inch's back in my wheel well, tword my passenger door (front to back, not side to side), than the drivers side. THis is causing some nasty readings with my alignment. NTB tells me that they should have been able to tell you this by examining the alignment printout and by inspection!!! so i figure, by paying them $125 they should have put my car up on a rack and looked at this!!! and told me that i have frame/subframe damage but they didn't they told me to buy some bulls*!t parts that will not help the problem at all!!!!!!! I called the dealer back and spoke to the service manager, he blew somke up my a$$ like they would to any other kid dealing with this situation. now im out like $500!!!! any lawyers here??!?! any advice?? could this be a manufactures defect??? since i never cracked my wheel hitting the curb could this mean that i didn't hit it hard enough??? how much is it to replace the passenger subframe??? Man i hate the postition im in!!! please excuse any grammer or spelling errors, im soo pissed off........

Wow, sorry to hear your problems.....Did you hit the curb going at speed?
If you pushed the front wheel back 3/4" of and inch, it must have been a decent impact.

Yes, the dealership should have been able to tell you that your alignment was off because of the original problem......Replacing the other components probably wasn't a bad idea, but if it doesn't correct the problem in the first place than they should make good or give you back your money for the diagnosis part anyways....
Good luck.

i hit the curb on the right side, where everything i jacked, about a year ago and have had NO problems, i hit it at like 9-12 MPH. only scratched my bumper a little and didn't throw off my alignment. two sundays ago i hit this smaller curb on the drivers side at like 40 MPh, but its severity was no different than a pothole.......... now everything i FU@KED, WHY WHY

I see, the side you hit last year is now the one thats giving you the problem.....strange. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the suspension was damaged, and somehow the second hit changed the geometry. I suggest taking it to a qualified frame shop, and see if you can get a straight, no pun intended, answer/free estimate, then go back to the dealer and make some noise.........

I had a similar situation a while back with a car of mine. I had some suspension issues. I brought it to a small shop thinking I would pay small fees. They said it was due to some bad brakes. I asked for the old parts back as I always do. So then I still had problems and brought it back to that shop. They said it's fine. I then brought it to a big shop. The bigger shop knew what the problem was. It was a suspension problem and they pointed it out to me. I had them fix it and it was all done. So then since I had paid by credit card for the brake work and had the old parts along with a bigger more reputal shop saying that wasn't the problem and that they actually fixed the problem I was able to get the credit card to cancle the transaction with the smaller shop. It was already paid for so they had to set up a complaint and had to offer the small shop a chance to reply to it. But with the letter from the larger shop I'm sure they knew they had no chance. So I wound up getting my $500 credited back from the small shop and get some new brakes.

So if you paid by credit card I would call your credit card company and explain what happend. Just give basics to keep it short and understandable to non-car knowledgeable people. Explain that one shop can prove that another one did completely unessicary work. Maybe mention that the work actually needed is more serious and needs to be done for safety reasons too and the other shop didn't pick that up with there $125 diagnostics check. By safety so I don't get flamed I mean in the sense that any bad suspension or something wrong causing suspension problems can cause the car to not handle right and possible even cause more porblems by driving it.

You might want to talk to the dealer first explaining what is actually wrong and what they can do for you before you take this action. Of course you should also make sure there is another shop around that can do the work actually need before you possibly blacklist your self from the known shop that can but just doesn't know what they are doing.

Best of luck.

after that enter story i just wanted to say. i Spent 45 for a diagnostic because my car pulled to the right. They looked at it decided, it was the tires and swapped them for me. They told me i could get an allignment for 110-45(i just paid) I have some 19's coming in on sat so after i put them on i might go back to the dealer.

I guess your area is just more expensive than mine

well first off go to a reputable body shop second the bearings would have nothing to do with the alignment but since you didnt buy the parts from the dealer you wont be able to stop payment but a frame machine can work magic in the right hands

Back in 92, I bought an Integra that had the same type of damage - the passenger wheel was physically 1" further back than spec and couldn't be aligned at all (I couldn't return the car since the owner moved out of the country). The dealership said the car had hit a curb hard and was badly repaired. They estimated $4,500 to straighten the suspension (tie rod, arms, etc) and frame rail. I think you have a case here; the dealership should have caught the problems immediately. I would definitely fight it and have them credit those repairs towards the proper frame/suspension repairs. Fight it dude!

another case... this is why my car only goes to a well known shop that has nothing to do with dealers, franchise auto repair places etc...

Go get some real advice from someone that knows what they're doin without having to pay them hundreds of dollars for a false answer.
