What to get with a new G
What to get with a new G
Hello everyone;
I'm thinking of getting a G Coupe in the next few months and was wondering what factory options are worth getting and what is not? Is their a significant difference in performance between the automatic and manual? Their cost is not really an issue for me, but are options like the aero kit/package and nav. system worth it? Any things I should definitely get?

personally, I think aero is ugly. That's just preference though.
Sunroof you need in a coupe.. you only have 2 windows, need more airflow on those nice spring/summmer/fall days.
I don't think prem package is worth it, but I could definately see how someone would think it's worth it.
I didn't want nav cause I plan on doing the double-din and going aftermarket nav. If you don't think that you'll ever do aftermarket stuff, and you travel somewhat often to new places, then nav may be nice.
I also didn't want prem package cause most of it (other than sunroof) is the sound system, which I'm replacing within a few months.
Note if you want nav, you need to already have premium package.
Hope this helps.

If you can afford it- get it all!! Cause you'll kick yourself in the butt later on if you dont! I have the aero kit and I happen to be one of the few who loves the rear spoiler on the car. I cant see it without it. Plus the 18" wheels make the car. I also have the auto- I am tired of driving stick and driving stick in traffic is a pain. I also don't have the NAV- same reason as you- I bought a Garmin Street Pilot and I love it- plus I can just carry it over to my wifes car. It all depends on your wallet though.

If cost is not an issue, then definitely get the NAV, which on the 6MT requires you to also get the premium package (not sure about the AT). We've had a NAV in my wife's Odyssey for 3 years, and we've found it so useful, that I promised myself that my next car would have to have it. It will save you time, provide options (alternative routes, nearby gas stations and restaurants), and allow you to keep your eyes on the road. Also, unlike satellite radio, once you buy the NAV, it's free to use with no cost of upkeep other than occasionally buying an updated DVD disc.
I'll give you an example of how I recently used the NAV. We had driven down from L.A. to San Diego's Sea World. The NAV directed us there. After a full day there, we were hungry and it was dark. I had the NAV search for all Chinese restaurants by proximity. I selected one, called the telephone number provided by the NAV, made a reservation, and directed the NAV to take us there. After dinner, I had no clue where we were or how to get on the freeway for home. I turned on the NAV, selected "HOME", and we were on the freeway heading for home in no time. Along the way, I needed gas, so the NAV showed me the station closest to the freeway.
I haven't tried the aftermarket NAV systems, so I can't compare them with the built-in unit, but I'm convinced the NAV was well worth the $2k investment.

Re: What to get with a new G
To me Nav wasn't really a requirement. My friend has had Nav in 3 of his last 4 cars. 3 maximas and one IS(no nav). He doesn't use it ever since he's been living here forever.
So i decided not to go with it because I know where im going and have a pretty good sense of directions. And i couldn't imagine making 4 payments and knowing that all ive paid for was the navigation that i may use two times a year. It it pretty though. Its not necessary but its nice to ahve.

Re: What to get with a new G
I have everything but NAV. I had my car parked next to another G35 without the aero and my car just dominated it. The other G seemed so small next to mine. I couldn't imagine my car without the aero...but it is a matter of preference.

wizawuza doesnt seem to think any of the options are worth it. Probably cuz he didnt get any options but the sunroof. I say get whatever options you can afford. Each is worth the money. I think the g looks naked without the aero and it looks so good. You need premium package on a lux car. You don't really need splash guards but they are nice too. Side mouldings are pointless cuz they are too low to even block a door from hitting the body of your car. I didn't get a nav cuz they didn't have any on the lot and i didn't want to wait any longer to get my car.

Actually I didn't get any of the options but the sunroof because I didn't think any of the other options were worth it.
I didn't order a car and wait over 3 months because of a rushed decision.
I NEVER use the auto dim in either my jeep grand chero, or my lexus es300.
Homelink.. I wouldn't use any of those fancy features other than to just open the garage door opener. A garage door opener will do just fine.
The bose is crap. The standard 160 watt system will do fine for a few months until I get upgrades.
Auto headlights.. c'mon how lazy are people nowadays. I had auto headlights on all of my current cars and I still turn them on and off manually.
And I did get the sunroof.
And aero.. yeah some like, some don't. I don't preach either way but personally I just happened to not like it.
and "you need premium package on a lux car"
I don't agree with that at all. A premium package is different from one car to another. Sure some cars you absolutely need it cause it includes so much that the car SHOULD have come with. But this car comes with enough in my opinion.
And I don't believe in blowing money away. Go to a dealer, try to use the features mentioned above. Only you can really figure out whether an option is worth it or not.
It wasn't a money decision for me. Instead I was either never going to use, or just going to replace all of those options, so why pay for it? I rather spend the money on other goodies.

" Any things I should definitely get?"
I think just about everyone agrees with me on this:
get the sunroof.
As far as I can tell, the only reason why a sunroof is a bad idea is if you're tall. No sunroof means more headroom.
For my short 5'10" self, this is no problem.

Re: What to get with a new G
I got everything in my 6MT G Coupe but the Nav and now I wish I had that. Not to dis other's choices on the forum, but my thought, is that you are already spending XXXX amount on the car anyway - splurge the extra 3 or 4 K and get it fully loaded. I would get the premium package and premium sound if you want a great system with no messing around with aftermarket parts. Also the spoiler and aero kit make my car completely stand out from the crowd. The 18" wheels and Brembo also completly are worth the extra $$$.
Just MHO.

Re: What to get with a new G
i ordered my car and waited 3 months. i had been car shopping for a couple of months so i had figured out what i wanted and didn't want.
the only "official" option i got was the sunroof. aside from the first car i ever owned, i always had the basic radio. so, getting the 160 watt std on this car was an upgrade for me.
auto dimming mirror, homelink? couldn't care less.
NAV? after i ordered the car and read this board, i wondered if i should have ordered it. but, the only purpose it would serve for me is to say i have it and ponder it's effect if i ever want to resell vehicle. i passed on it.
personally, i think certain colors look better without spoiler. to me, DG looks classier without, and that was the color of my choice. i think sedans look better with, but coupes.....
the 6mtC comes with a bunch of upgrade anyway (tire package).
04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.
