Question:
Is it possible to have the air set to circulate the cabin air without the AC on? Makes me nuts when I'm driving through a dusty area or stuck behind a bus with stinky exhaust that I can not set to circulate without turning the AC on. Is there any way around this?

slows the car down with the AC on and burns more gas, plus when it's 35 degrees out why do I need the AC on?Originally Posted by StreetChase

Yeah, this feature irritates me too. I'm driving along the east coast on a vacation and pass several spots where it's smells like doo-doo, some animal farm maybe. Can't roll the window down, can't keep it up, so there's no choice but to punch the circulate with the AC.Originally Posted by jcv423

I think there is a workout - I think I got it to circulate air without turning on the AC before....forgot the combination I pushed but I'll post when I figure it out.

Me too, I thought i saw the AC off in circulation at one point. Originally Posted by richie

I'm thinking after the heat has been running for a certain amount of time or once it detects the need for heat, the AC automatically turns off in circulation mode...but the AC will always turn on every initial start.
That's my wild guess, so don't quote me on that.

This is easy; just turn the ac on in the mode you want and then hit the ac button again; the compressor goes off and the rest stays the same... I do it all the time.

Correct! With A/C on - you obviously don't have to have cold air coming in...youc an turn the thermostat up. Remember, the A/C system de-humidifies the air (conditions the air). So even if your using warm air, it is being conditioned.Originally Posted by aHero4Eternity

When you recirculate the air, the system will condition the air to keep humidity (fogging up windows) to a minimum or non-existent side effect.
NOW - my question: If the system is off - and it is set for fresh air - why doesn't any air come through the vents? Every car is setup with air recirculation venting, to allow fresh air to circulate in the car when the system is off. Every car I have ever had worked this way. It's for carbon monoxide poisoning safety.

what I have found out is that if you push the off button while driving, you can also push the recirculate button.... this will eliminate any bad odor from the outside to come in....

I rarely use my A/C. It has to be 90+ degrees outside for me to turn it on. People here in SoCal are too funny. They drive around all the time with the windows up. Even on a nice day. Pop the dang window and enjoy nature, they should do.
Anyway, I just close the vent by hitting to circulate button. My A/C does not come on. You might want to get that checked out.
