How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
I paid 500.00$ off MSRP but as previously posted (lengthy explaination) it was a mistake by them. USAA's car buying service told me they couldn't get dealers to budge on MSRP so pay special attention to fees. Montgomery AL had a grand total of 95.00$ in dealership fees, mostly a document fee, vs Infiniti of South Atlanta which was up in the 600.00$ range. But as every one else has previously stated you can't get more car for the money, I would have paid MSRP after researching more. Ownership day 3, I'm not taking my G out on amatuer night tonight!

The dealership is on dealer row (Infiniti, Lexus, BMW, VW, Chrysler/Jeep, and a domestic auto mall) all within 1 mile. I can see the sales manager telling his guy not to let me walk out with that cash and check.

Vik,
Sounds like the dealer on the West Side near I-75 in Broward, let me know how it goes. I went there but so far don't have a warm and tender feeling from any dealers in SFLA. Most seem to have the attitude, "Take it or leave it" and they don't return phone calls.
BTW, Sedan or Coupe?

vikvaliant,
if you want to continue the game, do what i did once. come with another person, wife, GF, fiance, parent...
talk initially with them and salesman. then they walk away.
if you notice. salesman doesn't say yes or no to price, must check with another. you use your person as same. when dealer wants to know your offer, you say hang on, walk to the person, and even if you don't really ask, then come back, making it seem like you're going off their price.
when dealer counters, you do same thing. if dealer asks the other person to join conversation, be polite but decline. kind of what they are doing with sales mgr.

vikvaliant,
oh, and just before you sign, after you've agreed on price, say ... and you'll throw in 3 oil changes..... this way you have bargaining room.
also, i had them throw in wheel locks, cargo net, wind deflector (which i never installed, it sits in my garage).
good luck

Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
yea nate, i'm with you, the infiniti dealership in white plains was hard to crack for a test drive...when i went in there, they treated me as if i was a joke and didnt take me seriously...after my first visit, i realized they were a bunch of idiots who didnt know jack about the car except how to sell it...i came out with tons of technical questions which left a bunch of ??? on their faces...i totally demanded a test drive, and after being very persisten, telling them that "i'm not gonna spend $37K on a damn car and not test drive it b4 i decide if i like it or not, nobody in their right mind would...i told the last dealership i went to - if u dont want my money, i'm sure another dealer would..." the salesman went right inside and got the keys to a 6spd MT and off we went...they may try to use the line "nobody wants to spend $37K on a car that has miles, would you?" i told the sales guy "i wouldnt spend a dime on anything that i didnt test out, thats plain stupid." i got the same reaction from the infiniti dealer in englewood, NJ, and when he found out how serious i was, he kissed mah booty! hehehe...in any case, i ended up purchasing the car from the white plains dealer...and i got it for $3,500 under sticker due to VPP. i asked the dealer over the phone if they accepted VPP on the coupes, and the sales MANAGER said no cos it was a hott car, then i pulled out the VPP question right b4 i signed the papers, and they agreed to it, not bad eh?
Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
"The Saga Continues"
Well, I showered, got my electrolytes in (Gatorade) and went off to wage unholy financial warfare with the dealer. But first, I made a error in my last post. The BMW I was going to purchase was actually a used 330Ci at Carmax. And Carmax was all ready for me to come down and take delivery -- guaranteed me in and out in 15 mins if I faxed them some documents. They would only hold it for two hours.
*** I'll name the Infiniti dealer for you prospective buyers once I am all done -- if I ever get done. ****
So, I tell the Carmax guy I'll call him back and then call my sales guy at Infiniti to find out if he's got his mind straight yet -- and to inform him that I am on my way to Carmax with my pre-approved check in hand.
He reiterated that he gave me thier best deal and I was missing out on a great car. I then asked him about that silver automatic (I test drove a loaded 6 speed manual) that I saw with the 18s. I told him again the max I was willing to pay with those options and he said he would get back. I told him I wanted his best numbers out the door -- tax, tag, title included. I also told him I have my own financing and up to $6000.00 cash *IF* he can get *HIS* numbers straight. He said he'd talk to his sales manager and get back.
I then called another Infinity dealer and asked for internet sales. The internet guy was out sick (new years eve party fever I bet) and they connected me with someone else. I gave her the same criteria and she told me that she would call back in 15 mins with all the numbers -- tax, tag -- out the door. She also gave me the same speech about no discounts on G35 coupes.
Carmax calls and I tell the guy (they have real great service by the way) I may have to get back to him tommorow. He says if it sells, it sells -- they can only reserve it for two hours. Oh well... I'm afraid I was already smittin with G35 fever -- even after test driving both the G35 and the 330Ci.
Anyways... The second Infiniti dealer calls back with MSRP and says that is the best they can do -- and the only deal I can get in town -- period!
Well, guess what. My local Infiniti sales guy calls back right after with $458.00 under MSRP. This was on a 5A with leather and premium pkg. only. They were also willing to accept Carmax's evaluation of my trade, which I thought was fair. So I head down there.
Everyone is happy, we're running the numbers, signing papers, writing checks, when... BAM! It turns out the car I was going to be sold was already sold that morning. Which may not be a bad thing. Because I went over to the sales manager and jokingly bitched that he should "upgrade" me for the same price. He joked back that I was already "upgraded" by not paying full MSRP (and over blue book on trade) and that I know it.
So, we all agreed to hold the deal as is until Friday when they find a replacement. But I think StudlyMobile has the right idea about getting some extras thrown in at the last minute.
Stay tuned...

oh, a great time to get them to throw extras in, is when they "casually" mention the infiniti questionairre. be bold, you got nothing to lose. oil changes cost them didly.
tell them you want them to throw in splash guards, they have extra play when it is a dealer installed option.

Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
Another question. Is limited slip differential alone worth the cost of the performance package? I've noticed that everything in the performace package can be easily added on afterwards with that exception.
Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
Finally over. Drove home with a new G35 (auto with premium pkg) yesterday. In the end, I paid around $300 under MSRP and they "threw in" sunroof visor, floormats, trunk mat and mesh, and two extra oil changes.
Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
Got lucky with VPP price. Searched online for months, lots of emailing, but no dealer takes VPP on 6MT in Souther California. Finally got a call from internet sales at Tustin Infiniti (Halleh Afshar) and promised me they'll take VPP on a G I've emailed them about. Got there 9:30AM, but found out the G they're offering is automatic (my fault actually). Just when I was driving off depressed, Halleh called me to inform me that she talked to her manager and agreed to get me VPP on a 6MT. Ended up paying $35,795.59 for a MSRP $39,045.00 6MT. It's got more option than what I want (REALLY didn't want the Sat or the body side moldings. . .), but the savings I've got is worth it.
Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
did you install sunroof visor yet? if not, hold off. i got it thrown in, but then i said don't install. i figure i could always put it on later. someone said it MIGHT scratch top ever so slightly. so hold off if you can.

Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
Actually, they installed it. All those extras were installed on the car before I drove away. The only thing I had them take off was the door molding. They simply peeled it off and rewashed the vehicle.
Re: How Much Did You Guys Pay? Need Help!
1. Use VPP
In short, I used the VPP plan and paid $33,337.69 for a vehicle with MSRP of $36,205. Be sure you research if you qualify for this plan before commencing negotiations.
2. As mentioned earlier, the dealer reiterated the importance of checking 'excellent' on the survey. The survey is a basis for J.D. Power customer satisfaction ratings. Use this as leverage to request extra goodies.
3. Ask for a discount on the extended warranty. The dealer charged me $1251 for the 7yr/100K. I declined and he said he would lower my interest rate 1/2%. Needless to say I accepted at a net cost of around $950 for the additional (3) years peace of mind.
I hope these tidbits help in the negotiating process.
