AT drivers- listen to your car

I was at the drive through today and I heard something interesting. (I always listen to my car when I'm at the drive through because the sound echo gives you a clear feedback as regards the sound of your engine. I can tell if valves are knocking etc...) Anyway I was in MM mode. I decided to switch back to Drive because I had a huge drink that I needed to place in my cup holder and it was in the way of the shifter.

When I switched to D mode the sound from my engine changed slightly. When in MM mode you can hear air rushing somewhere under the hood. When you switch to "D" it goes away.. I found that interesting as I tested it a number of times and each time it did occur. As I revved the engine the air increased-consistent with the engine RPMs. It wasn't very loud. It sounds a little like a public utilities gas line.
I wonder why that is?

are u sure it didnt change gears when u put it back in drive? if it did then dont worry about it. If not then i am not sure what that could be. my engine doesnt make a different sound but my tranny does. when its in MM mode it is loader then when in Drive. like it makes a whinning nosie some times.

It didn't really sound odd in a bad way... just different.
You'll probrably only notice it when perhaps at a drive through w/ your windows down or in a garage where the sound will echo. I didn't have the AC on at all at the time. Perhaps it's just my car and I should take it in to get it checked out... lol...

Re: AT drivers- listen to your car

I really don't think its anything to worry about I sat in my car for about 10min. just listening, AC on/off, headlights on/off, I did get a little noise from my Trans. when I put in "N" & "D." The idol RPMs change a little. I gave it some gas, and just the usual.
Good luck!!!
