Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
Its been 5 months now since I've purchase the G-coupe and I finally realize that I never test drove the coupe and sign all the contract without test driving it. Not that it matters, but my test drive was actually driving off the lot to taking the G- to its new home. My point is that I was so sold on this amazing car that a test drive was totally un-necessary. I'm so amaze with this car that it is just absolutely awesome.
Peace, and happy motoring.

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
I can't say that I've ever bought a car without first driving it, but in the same vein, I will admit to not having driven competing models when buying a new car. It seems that whenever I'm set to buy a new car, I do so not because my current car needs replacing, but because I'm so awe-struck by a particular car that test driving the competition would in most likelihood not change my mind. Besides, when was the last time a dealer let you loose, alone, for an entire afternoon so that you could really get used to it and test the snot out of it on your favorite road? For the most part, I leave the comparison testing and performance data to car rags. Crazy? Perhaps, but I've never once regretted a purchase, and that goes double for the G35c.

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
i tested the coupe AT, but not MT, which i bought. dealer said all mt's are sold by the time they hit dealership. told me to test a 350z because they would have mt's.
looked at volvo's. was interested in s60R, but they didn't have an available one to test. also, they didn't let them go for tests.
04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

When I purchased my wife's 97 Honda CRV - the contract was written "subject to test drive" at the time it was the hardest to get SUV and they never had any on the lot more than a few hours.

Everytime I went to my local dealership there were no 6MTs available. While in DC for a couple of weeks I finally got to drive one. Drove the Z too...

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
I'm with you logical. I first test drove the G35 sedan, since the dealer said it performed like the G35 coupe. The dealership that I was at would sell them fast. There was one G35 coupe, but it was being prepared for the buyer to pick up. Begged, but they didn't budge. I loved the G35sedan, but they said "wait till you drive the coupe." I was sold. Immediately put my name down, when it arrived, I jumped on it....not even test driving the car. I signed on the dotted line. The salesman laughed. She said "you haven't test drove the coupe yet?" She insisted since another buyer flaked out on her for a white G35 coupe, that I test drive it around while mine was getting prepped....had the tape, the plastic covers. I said "no". I already purchased it. First test drive was when I drove my car off the lot. Loved it!
Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
Different strokes I guess. I was quite happy with my '95 BMW 325is 5MT/Sport, and it was fully paid for, so when the G coupe caught my eye (more like stole my heart and blew my mind) at the car show last April, the idea of a trade was only a dream. Initially I didn't plan to at all, but it was the test drives (and forums like this) that sold me. I drove an IP 6MT twice (thank you Douglas Infiniti), a LR 5AT once (thank you Devan Infiniti) and a BS 6MT once at Ramsey Infiniti where I eventually bought my DG 6MT coupe. I also drove a 6MT Track 350Z at Ramsey's Nissan dealership next door to the Infiniti lot. That was perhaps the decisive one because I felt no difference in the car's performance, either engine or chassis-wise, on the (admittedly only 10 minute) drive. Considering that, the G coupe's additional luxury/practicality features made it a no-brainer for me.

Interesting, I had the opposite reaction. I didn't feel strongly at all about this car until I test drove it. And the only reason I test drove it was because I cut my visit to a Lexus dealer short and had an hour to kill. I didn't even think it was that attractive looking from its pictures on Edmunds, but it was either Infiniti or Chevy on that strip of road. Must have been fate. But anyway, never deprive yourself of the opportunity to test drive. Hell, I'd test drive a car every weekend if it didn't make me feel like a jerk. Car salesmen can be dicks, but you really only ought to screw them over on weekdays, when the dealerships are quiet anyway.

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
I decided to buy the car way before I test drove it. The nyc auto show last april sold me and that was from just sitting in the car for 30 seconds while some impatient 14 year old stared me down waiting for his turn to sit in the car!
Not that I didn't test drive it...I did....I test drove the same lr 5at demo at devin infiniti that bmw3tog35c probably test drove. But it was just a formality, you know? Like getting a house inpecition...you already know you want the product but there are certain things you kinda have to do....
ps-my test drive was awesome...devin infiniti (in fairfield, ct) tossed me the keys and said "have a good time, bring her back in 20 minutes". 45 minutes later I returned......

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
When i ordered my coupe it was back in September of 2002 so i never even saw an acual coupe. i saw one small pic in the back of my car magizine about a concept and i was like thats what i want. so i went over the infiniti dealer and they had a package about it that had little infermation but i was like what ever put me on the list. sevril months later the coupe came in on the second boat and i am a better man scince. I never test drove on the closest thing i came to a coupe befor it came in was a concept that was touring around the dealers with a differet engine then ours. but i dont regret not testing it one bit the car has been more then the best handle car i have ever owned.

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
My "testdrive" was my salesman taking me for a spin in a 6MT coupe. He didn't let me drive it due to my age. My real testdrive was right before the paperwork when the car was parked in the back with the "sold" sticker on it.

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
Kind of the same with me. I did all of my homework on the coupe and knew all of the stats before they went on sale. I did test drive one at the Cerritos dealership, but it was not the one I bought. Cerritos wasn't willing to stay on the same page with me, so I came home and put the word out on the internet. Costa Mesa said they had the one I wanted, in their showroom, and I purchased it without ever test driving it first.

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
I couldn't imagine buying a car without driving it first.
That's like buying a pair of shoes without trying them on.... How do you know how it fits? Is it comfortable?
I first saw the G35 coupe at the NY Auto Show (if I remember correctly, nobody saw it before then, it was the debut) and LOVED the look of the car. I remember thinking to myself, "Hmmm... if this car drives as good as it looks, I might just buy one".
I guess I'm just a true enthusiast. To me, a car has to satisfy ALL of my requirements as a true driver's car. And that's a lot more than just looking pretty.
That said, I would never buy any car without at least a thorough test drive.

Re: Come to think of it, I never test drove the G35-C
Testdrove 350z, M3, RX8, G35coupe, RSX Type S, and SLK32. I testdrove the G35coupe 3 more times not including the testdrive I took at the last dealer, when I had the car reserved to buy (it took me 4 dealers to find my options on the car). I was really looking around for a car and doubted the Gcoupe's performance when I heard about it. The first testdrive told me otherwise. =)
