Filling Up

I always noticed that i wasn't able to fill up my tank completely. I would finish pumping the gas, start my car, and the fuel tank wouldn't be full. What is going on?

Re: Filling Up

That happens to me 90% most of the time too. I really don't know why it does that. I just guess the amount afterwards what is needed to fill up the tank. I dunno but hopefully somebody on this board have a say so.

Re: Filling Up

Wow.. when I fill up, the needle is always above the F line... and I don't "top off".

Re: Filling Up

My guess would be that you may have a bad sending unit. Same thing happened with my wife's Accord when it was brand new. It would only register 3/4 of a tank at fill-up. It's an easy fix for the dealer, and you're covered under warranty.

Re: Filling Up

It does work some of the time. Everytime I fill up I'm scared to see what happens...hehe.
Oh well....back to the dealership.

Re: Filling Up

There are at least two possible issues here:
1). Some people (including me) have noticed that certain gas pumps click off before the G is full. It has something to do with the pressure system in certain pumps and the size of our filler pipe to the gas tank.
2) or you could just have something wrong with your gas guage.

Re: Filling Up

I have a problem with fast pumps where it will turn off immediately and I'm not able to go past "half throttle".

Re: Filling Up

i had a similar problem a few weeks ago...my G was empty...went to fill it up..and it would only take about 10 bux worth of gas..the guy tried 2 more times to fill it up..i managed to get another 50 cents worth...finally he turned the gas nozzle upside down so the trigger is on top and he just force held it down til i told him to stop...only had that problem at the BP gas station (amoco)

Re: Filling Up

if you do a search you can find people with similar problems. some turned handle upside down.

Re: Filling Up

now that you brought it up..I noticed my cars gas guage never goes over the full mark when I gas up....my I35 would take a few minutes after filling and then go over the full mark...maybe the next time I'll see if i can top off the tank and check it out....I usually tell the gas attendant not to top off the tank....because it usually involves re-waxing my back fender when it over flows!!!!!! I'll let you know what happens..if not its back to the dealer next service and have them check it out...20ld4this

Re: Filling Up

I had the same problem and they had to change the filler tube something about something getting clogged up...my gas would splash out. Now I just hold the gas nozzle out a little and go slow..no problems so far...but I avoid stations with those big black covers over the nozzle...Pingo
