oil question...help me out guys.

i just changed my oil using the german castrol for the first time. this oil ONLY comes in a 0w-30 correct? i was just making sure i bought the correct oil, it DOES say made in germany on the back, as well as european formula on the back. when i took my car to the place i get my oil changed this afternoon, the douchebag working there made me sign a waver that they were putting 0w-30 in my car rather than the recommended 5w30. he told me it would destroy my engine/void my warranty...this guy is basically an idiot right?? also, how much oil do you guys normally put in? i know the manual states 5qts, but the guy there only put 4.5 in it, and said any more than that i could mess up the seals...someone just make me feel better and tell me im right and he's wrong. thanks fellas.

0w-30??? never heard that before. I just changed my oil last week with Castrol full synthetic, 5w-30. I had 5 quarts since I changed the oil filter as well. I would suggest you check your oil level the next morning before warm up the engine, perhaps, when the engine is cool, it would give you better reading. About mess up the seals, I think he try to scare you..

Yeah I read the same thing....everyone saying they are using the 0w-30 from what I understand, I wouldn't worry to much about it but you can always get it checked out just in case. I haven't been able to locate it locally around here but I'm still hunting.

German Castrol.........Why?

If you lived in Canada 0/30 might work in the spring or fall. Your manual tells
you to use 5/30 or in warmer climates 10/30. You need to check you dipstick
because your car takes 5 quarts.......I know it's not easy! (worst dipstick
on any car I've ever owned) My two cents, stick with one of our synthetic
oils....Mobil 1.....Royal Purple.......or my choice RedLine and K&N filters.

check the bobistheoilguy forums about the gc 0w30 under "thin oil myth" and so far oil analysis for the gc on our vq's turned out very good. So I wouldnt worry at all and keep on using the GC.

no i dont think you will have problems. and as for only having 4.5 quarts it sould also be fine. .5qt wont make any difference aslong as you dont have oil consumption problems. its better to have a little less oil in your car than too much oil. As long as your dip stick marks somewhere in the X's then youre fine.
