At what RPM is a proper race lauch for 6mt
At what RPM is a proper race lauch for 6mt
This is my problem; If the RPM are like 2000 then I does not seem to launch just right. 3000 RPM seems like there is too much wheel spin. Also at what RPMs is the right time to upshift. Because redline and peak power RPMs are different for our car. Peak power comes about 500 RPM before redline. Any help is appreciated.

You need to shift at redline for maximum power. Going a little beyond the power peak keeps the engine from dropping too far below the power peak after the shift.
Re: At what RPM is a proper race lauch for 6mt
Wheel spin can be controlled by feathering the gas at high RPM launches. Magazine times were recorded at 4,000 RPM launches.

Redline is the best shift point...
It puts you closer to the peak power point in the next gear. Also there is not a major drop in hp between 6200 @ 6700 RPM.

Guys, he's asking about launching his car, not the best shift points.
You've really gotta learn how to slip the clutch if you want a good launch. Don't just pick an RPM (2000 or 3000 or whatever) and dump the clutch. A good, hard launch should be higher enough revs to avoid bogging the engine, but without excessive wheelspin either. Just practice.

Oh, I guess the shift point quesiton was in there too....
I agree that shifting redline is best.
The only cars that should be shifted below redline are high torque cars that make more of their power down low.

I think half of the formula is how fast/slow you release the clutch.

You might want to give your post more than an hour and a half before "bumping" it. Especially when you post it at 2 in the morning.

for those of you saying "you just need some practice to get it right", can you make some recommendations on HOW we should go about practice?
I mean, it's kinda scary to just arbitrarily try different rpms and clutch release techniques.
help the n00bs out! you wouldn't want us to give Gs a bad name

Try and empty road or parking lot..... just vary launch RPM and clutch release, until you feel that you have the best launch possible. You might want to start with 2000 rpm and let the clutch out rapidly, then make adjustments to your technique.
The perfect launch will be with some wheelspin (not a lot though) and no bogging whatsoever. You'll know it when you get it.

Alright thanks. I usually do about 2500 and dump the clutch and when I feel it hoocked up I floor it.

Re: At what RPM is a proper race lauch for 6mt
When I dump the clutch, I get terrible wheel hop...
So I just release it until I feel it engaging, then HOLD it there for a second then RELEASE it all the way. It reduces wheel hop big time and I get a nice launch.
But i'm just a 1 month old manual driver, so don't listen to me. heh. But thats just from my experience.

Hey, Try lauching between 1500-2000 keeps you from not spinning wheel too much. stomp the gas after your launch my car feels like it's kicking sideways at this time and shift about 5500 thats how i do it and i usually get them at the line sometimes but practice does make perfect btw Results may vary... ; ) if ya don't like it try something different.. everybody has different techniques this is just my 0.02 cents of what i have...
