Escutcheon problem

Ok so I lost my escutcheon about a week ago so I ordered a new one to go on my driver side. I got the passanger side one to go on the driver side. Anyway I read the DIY for installing it and for some reason I just cant get it to click down on the big tab closer to the door handle. I tryed pushing very hard but it doesnt seem to want to stay down. Maybe this is why I lost my old escutcheon randomly? What options do I have?

LOL I'm sorry, just the way you responded to the post has me laughing out loud.

To the OP, I think I know exactly what you problem is - I encountered it when I was trying to install mine.

There are two small tabs on the back of the keyhole cover. They are plastic, but MILDLY flexible. I'm guessing yours are pointing slightly inwards, towards the inside of the cover?
They WILL snap off if you bend them too much, but, take a flat head screwdriver and very gently and gradually pry each one of them upwards so that they are flush with the underside of the cover. You will be suprised at how little force it requires to bend them, so be careful. Then try installing it again. It should work like a charm.

Let us know.

I bent the little pins out already like the DIY said to do. Maybe I bent them out too far... I will give it a shot again tomorrow and see how it goes.

Check the spot where those tabs grab onto, the tabs from the old Escutcheon might be broken off and still in there. Assuming your original one was stolen and didn't just fall off, the person who stole it probably used some force to get the original one off, and may have broken your original tabs off. If those original tabs are stuck in the crevice where the new ones are supposed to be catching onto, it will prevent the new Escutcheon from staying in place...... Kinda like how the latch on a doorknob won't catch if you plug up the hole where the cylinder goes into in the door frame.

I finally got it working. I guess I bent the tabs out too far. I bent them in a little bit and it fit snuggly when I put it on and it made a click. So it should be ok. If it falls off again I will just order another one lol.
