loaner car incident
loaner car incident
Hey guys,
I just took my G into pepe infiniti (westchester, ny) to get the grease streak tsb and rear rattle fixed and they gave me an i35 loaner for the weekend. Well, I accidentally damaged the i35's front bumper. I hit this little rock solid iceberg type thing that i didn't see. The lower left fog light is cracked and the bumper is dented and cut. Does anyone have experience with something like this and know how the infiniti dealers handle accidents with their loaner cars?
Thanks

Re: loaner car incident
Inform the dealership of the incident. If deemed appropriate, Infiniti will want you to make a claim on your insurance... Sorry, I know that sux.

Re: loaner car incident
You sign a form (at least at my dealership), that puts the new car temporarily under your insurance, then they do a really quick cursory exterior inspection upon return. I'd rather tell them than have them call me and alert me to the fact that I tried to hoodwink them.

It does suck but at least you didn't hit "this little rock solid iceberg type" with your G.

Re: loaner car incident
I agree with the Golden Rule as well but...... Since I have had my G returned on a few occasions with new scuffs and scratches, all of which the dealer always claim was my fault and not theirs. I say if the dealer has done this to you return it as is and see what happens. If however the dealer has been nothing but "gold" to you then I would return the favor to them and do the right thing. Also on another note once when I had a G loaner I brought it back 2 days later and noticed when I returned it that the person who had it before had ripped the Head liner in the back. I never said anything about it since I didn't want the blame for it. They never asked me about it either so I left it with that. The moral choice is yours my friend.... Peace.

I agree....they don't even come out to look at it. The tell me that I can drive as many miles as I want and that I can bring the car back with an empty tank also. I don't think they will even notice it.
Re: loaner car incident
I get mine serviced at Pepe also, so I'll be interested in how you make out. I can tell you that in 2 trips there, they've never checked the car upon my return. However, that doesn't mean they don't before it goes out again.
Re: loaner car incident
This is not directed towards anyone here at all-- I just felt I needed to get this out.
Okay, I'm probably in the minority here, but when I screw up... I just face it and deal with it. I don't know if it makes me a better person, but I definitely treat other people's property with more respect for it. Just because there's an "easy" path out, doesn't mean it should be followed.
Ever since I moved to this country, I've noticed everyone whines about the lack of integrity and honesty of people, and then we call speeding tickets "entrapment", try to avoid letting dealers know we've modded our cars (even when the mods are the problem), and generally just try to hide indiscretions. No wonder the bar is set so low. If I were a dealer, I would be appreciative of exercised honesty... not everything is about the bottom line in life.

Well said.
If one does not act honestly, one cannot expect honesty in return.

Well I didn't even move to this country and I hear the same things about the bar being set low, people crying about the lack of integrity, etc. Yes, I was fortunate enough to be born here.
You can follow the advice of those who say just don't say anything, and try to get away with it. But just remember this: there really is a world of consequences, some of them unintended. And I can guarantee this much--you will be the recipient of consequences.
You already know what to do, otherwise you wouldn't even be posting the question.
Do what you want. But forever from now until whenever, WHEN those not so nice (and some awful) things happen to you and those around you, you will wonder about this one. I promise you that much.
