Why does it take so long to get a coupe?

I just contacted my local Infiniti dealer about buying a g35 coupe. He told me that it would be late April before he can have a car ordered. Why does it take so long to get a coupe? I have loved this car since I saw it a more than a year ago, and I know how amazing they are, but are they such in demand that they are in short supply?

I am surprised that it takes that long. I just went to my dealer for 1st service and there were 3 on the lot and 2 in the showroom. Coupes that is. My dealer is Ray Catena in Edison NJ.

yes and i think production is fairly limited, in comparison to other cars. You should still be able to find them on the dealer lots though. Try using the build and locate function on the infiniti website to search other dealerships in your region. Thats how I found mine. It was the only one like it available in the entire southeast US at the time.

Their are way too many on the road and on the dealers lots. I read my local papers here in southern california every sunday and every infiniti dealers lists that they have anywhere from 40 to 70 coupes on their lot, "noooooo", I want to be exclusive. Oh well, please enjoy this amazing car, its absolutely amazing.

when i went to get my coupe, the dealer had only one on the lot and one in the showroom. For some reason, the one on the lot had 270 "transit" miles on it, so i opted for the showroom model. Laser Red / Graphite.

Re: Why does it take so long to get a coupe?

you say april to have it ordered or delivered.
the std is they one month allocation, month 2 build, month 3 ship.

order day is usually in the first week of the month. that is day dealers have to have their orders in by. they either order for their inventory or customers.

often, they can find one another dealer ordered and re-route it. i couldn't do that because i didn't order std packages.

04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

Re: Why does it take so long to get a coupe?

I passed by my local Infiniti dealer this weekend, and there were only two G35 coupes on the lot.

Down the road, I noticed that Acura had at least 30 of the new TL sitting on their lot.... and that car just came out!!

I guess Acura will be making money on selling volume, versus price. Infiniti seems to be taking the opposite position.

Evidently you can also get a deal ...

A guy in my office just got an 04 the day after Christmas and got it for $1600 under MSRP here in ChicagoLand.

This does not jive that you can get a deal but people are also waiting for vehicles (unless you want a standard which is what I've got!!! hee hee hee)

When I bought mine the sales guy said "couldn't get it, have to wait" I just told him I was going to buy one from somewhere and lo and behold he called me the next day telling me he found one for me and would have it by the end of the week.

We lucked out when we bought mine, the twilight blues go fast at that dealer, and they had one just delivered that day, coming off the truck with everything we wanted. We actually had more trouble finding the Z we wanted, and people are still trying to overcharge for them. Of course, we didn't try to order either one, just hoped for the best at the lots. Luckily in LA there are quite a few lots to choose from.

It takes a long time b/c the cars come from the motherland of Japan if you cannot locate on at a dealership in the good ole US. Infiniti also limits the production numbers to keep the demand somewhat high which is good for the resale value.

Re: Evidently you can also get a deal ...

It took me approx. 4 months to get mine. It was worth the wait. I love my car. I posted up my story a while back. I thought that the supply for the G35 has gone up in the U.S. Mainly when I take my car to the dealership for maintenance, there is always 4 on the lot ready to be sold.
