Taping up my car for a long trip?

Hi guys i have an 03 6mt and want to take it on a long trip about 650 miles round trip. I was wonderign if you guys would recommend taping up my car say like the fender lips and maybe a little bit in the front with some kind of painters tape

like that blue stuff used for edging only in white since i have an IP 6mt. the reason i wanna do this is to avoid rock chips since i do wanna sell my car soon and it has been painted already...

has anyone done this before and did it peel the paint of or anything like that?

please throw me your .02 cents thanks guys

They have been plenty of members especially with IP coupe that mask their front with blue painters tape. I tried searching but couldn't find anything specific but I'm sure members who have done so will chime in. As for me, since I have an OB coupe, I throw the bra on for long trips.

Or you could be like this guy...

I always tape up the front of my car when going on a long trip. I go from San Diego to San Fransisco atleast once a year (500mi). I use the extra wide blue painters tape since it covers faster. I cover the entire front bumper, 1/4 of the hood, about a foot of the roof and the side view mirrors.

what does that have anything to do with it? You're still driving the car, its just wrapped in blue tape?!?! Infiniti's paint is so soft i wouldnt dream of going more than a 200 mile trip without taping up.

I've read about a spray on protectant you can use. although I don't know the name of it. You have to mask windows, lights and trim, then just spray like paint. I believe it's flat black in color. Sorry, I can't remember where I read about it.

i drove from socal to az with my car taped up. it was a 400 mile trip. i also won 10 bucks because my friend said i couldnt make the 400 mile trip without refueling. i had 4 guys in the car and a trunk full of luggage. made it to his garage with the gas light on and 23 mpg. drove an average of 80mph the entire way with cruise control on. my friend drove me around in az so i left the tape on the car for 5 days and drove home. i didnt take any before pictures because i was in a rush but here are some afters

***when you tape the hood remember to tape from top to bottom
after the trip i washed my car and found 1 rock chip on the hood because the tape was lifted up a bit from all the wind

I would recommend washing the car before that way you won't risk chances of scratching when applying the tape.

I've never seen anyone around here tape up their cars for road trips, but whatever works for you....Why not get a bra and just use it for road trips...
