I have a 2004 G35 coupe that had a spot repaint. The rear bumper, trunk, quarter panel and passenger door was done. What I've noticed is that whenever I go to wash the car the areas that were repainted scratch very easily. I end up polishing these areas every time I wash. The factory painted areas don't scratch as easily and so don't get polished except once every 6 months or so.
I'm in So Cal and was told by the body shop thats the problem with paints nowadays, they cannot get baked on like the factory paints.
I would like to know what anyone else's experiences has been, because I have a small dent on the quarter panel from dropping the polisher on it, and I will have to have that area repainted?

I had my entire IP sedan repainted. They used some of the best paint on the market in downdraft booths. They also have a bay to bake/cure the paint (just like the factory does).

Mine turned out better than oem. Took them 4 weeks. It has less orange peel now, the match is amazing (Slightly better flake). I think body shops just dont want the hassle of redoing or fixing work so they bs alot in most cases.

The guy I worked with spent half a day cleaning out and replacing booth filters so that no black/dirt specs got into my 3 stage paint. This wouldnt be a big deal on black, but on white every spec shows... in the end only one tiny spec got into it and nobody will ever see it. I only know of it because I am crazy and obsessive about it.

Thanks for that, now I just need to find a body shop that will bake the paint. You do realize that its not baked on as hot as the factory, so its not going to be as hard?

most shops bake the paint but no longer than 30-45 mins...after you get your car back let it uv bake in the sun for 30-45 days and you should not wax it for 90 days

I had one of my quarter panels repainted couple months ago, no problem with the paint or anything. A buddy of mine owns a bodyshop and told me AQMD, "the air quality police", has come down hard on the amount of votalie organic compound that is being emitted in the air. As a result, shops aren't using what they normally used in the past and drying time takes much longer.

I'm thinking of doing a full repaint on my OB 05 coupe.

SO, do you think I should just let the original shop that painted the car, do the repairs and paint and this time I let the car sit outside for 90 days OR try another shop?

ASk around find another shop in your town w/ a good rep. All shops have problems from time 2 time. It how they fix the problems that make them worth a return visit. Your unhappy with the first paint job they did so why return and spend more $$ at a shop you already don't trust.

I am also thinking about a re-paint of my OB. What does a good job cost?

I was quoted $6k from a very reputable bodyshop.
