Fun time while at work.
Re: Fun time while at work.
Where in Jersey?
I'm in New York, about 20 miles north of the city. There's a shop called Jo Jo's in Bardonia that is really good. You might want to take a ride over there and at least have them look at it.

Actually, the professional detailer or even a body shop that really knows their stuff might be the best way to go. Not that you don't have the experience, but just think of it this way: a shop that does this a lot is a whole lot better than you and me doing it once in a few years.
Hitman has a good idea, if you can get off the time from work and go sit with them as they do the work. Altho, I might recommend you call and talk with them on the phone first regarding what the car has on it or the scratches in the paint and get some comfort over the phone as to what they're going to do and how much and how long it'll take (tell them you're going to have to wait for the car). Of course, that means talking to an actual "do-er" vs. the receptionist or someone like that who's never handled a polisher.
Good luck with it and don't be too hard on your grandfather. Just recall that in his time the paint was such that you could probably wipe off your car with a towel without damaging the paint. Or, maybe he's one of those drivers who feels a car is just a car for getting to Point B. The solution is to get it taken care of, and then protect it from happening again with some form of car cover (NOAH covers for outdoor useage are marginally better than Evolution 4, but also more expensive.).

Claybar, then a nice 2-step glaze - wax combo. I did it all the time when I was doing show cars. You won't see any swirls whatsoever. Pro detailers do that exact process as a standard procedure (which is where I learned how to do it).

Zaino it.........claybar...polish/wax.
Ought to do it anyway this spring with the car sitting out---it will look like new...maybe better. Check out the Zaino posts or their web sight www.zainobros.com
Hard to kick a guy trying to help isn't it.
PS. things could be worse..you could be driving this:

Haha, yeah, thank god I'm not driving that. I wasn't too hard on the old fella. I'll most likely get a detailer to do the work while I watch. A friend of mine has a junker I could probably practice detailing on.
Only problem is most places around here are shady and I find nothing but thugs working for these places. They're mostly speed shops w/a garage, and I've been in them from time to time to look and ask questions...and I can say that I would not trust any of them. So, the search begins for a trustworthy detailer, and I'll be ordering Zaino as well.
Thanks for all the jokes and info guys.

Re: Fun time while at work.
Serum, I live in NJ. I have an ex-friend that use to take my 3000GT whenever he felt fit and cleaned it (he worked for an auto body shop) he use to clean it and wax it...but I have to say he left more wax on the damn car than in the wax container. I live NW NJ and we have some pretty good shops around here in the sticks...i could recommend if you want...
Edited by kfloydlezak on 01/30/04 07:21 AM.
