Big Problem (long story)

I have a 2005 5AT Coupe with only 30k miles that wouldn't start yesterday. Before leaving my house I attempted to auto start my car with my keyfob. I then noticed the car did not start. I tried again with no success. I then attempt to start the car manually with key. Again the engine does not turnover. I then check and see if I left the headlights or dome light on by mistake earlier in the day. And the answer is no I didn't leave them on. I then proceed to check if the headlights, radio, dome lights etc. work properly in accessory mode. And they do. At this point I'm confused and hot (its 95 degrees outside) but I think to myself "ah maybe it needs a jump" but on the other hand I think to myself this car only has 30K miles WTF!! So instead I call infiniti and they tell me to call roadside assistance to tow it to the dealership. They arrive and ask if I would like them to attempt to jump the car. So I reply "yes" reluctantly thinking there's no way the battery could be the cause on a 30K mile car. And guess what the F%*king car starts right up.

Anyway I talk to the Infiniti dealership again and he mentions that the Infiniti G35 never had an Auto Start option. I then reply "It is factory/dealer installed and that I use my OEM Keyfob to AutoStart my vehicle by double clicking the doorlock button". He goes on to say its not a factory option and that it would not be covered under warranty because of aftermarket Auto Start. If you have auto start on your 2005 coupe 5AT from the factory/dealer installed please chime in. Or if you've had this same problem and know a solution to prevent it from happening again please due tell.

I don't have a 05, but i am inclined to say these cars never came with auto-start. Can someone refute my claim?

Nope, no auto-start. Only aftermarket alarms and systems which i've seen malfunction. Any places that installs alarms and auto-starts can usually trace the problem.

I have an 05, don't have auto-start, and agree with Bassholic above - it was never offered as an option as far as I know.

It's not a factory option.

I have Viper Alarm vx791 which came with an auto start, so I had it installed. So far it has been good to me.

So I am guessing you bought the car used, you should call the manufacture of your auto start and ask them.

Was the battery tested? Maybe it was just a bad battery? In that case the battery should have a warranty.

It is dealer installed option, like tinted windows, clear bra, wheel lock...ect, so it isnt under factory warranty, dealership might only give you one year and 12k miles warranty on the alarm itself, need to go back the same dealer you purchased it from and see what they say.

Regardless if your Auto Start was factory or dealer installed, you mentioned that you could not manually start with a key, yet a jump start did the trick. Usually a low battery gives an indication with sound of crank having difficulty, but you seem to imply as if no contact at all, yet electrical accessories work.

It might not be this problem in your situation (possible that your Auto Start did interfere somehow), but worth checking out.

I think you might want to check your battery wiring to your starter. In some (perhaps most) cars, it is a separate wire from the accessories, although both are connected to the same battery terminal. Look for any corrosion and maybe even check near the solenoid/starter area (hard to see though).

I've seen where a badly corroded cable could be overcome with a jump start because of the extra juice (or maybe b/c cables were jiggled) but you may get stranded later. Corrosion is touch-and-go in terms of the connection and power it can transmit to the solenoid/starter. It may be fine for a while ... but then nothing. Corrosion can be removed with a battery terminal brush, you probably don't need to replace the cable(s) if they aren't damaged or old.

Tip: If you find yourself stranded due to bad connection between battery and starter, one trick is to bypass that wire using your jumper cables, handy in emergency situation to get you home. Do this only if jiggling wires doesn't help, you know what your are doing, or you are desperate ... I take no liability (i.e. you have to get down on your knees and get dirty etc. lol).

Oh, and don't lose any body parts.

yes, exactly. you have to go back to where it was first purchased from. at my dealership we give customers a lifetime warranty for aftermarket alarms. but all in all alarms/auto starts just mess up the car and void the warranty, dealer installed or not. IMO its just a another object sold to a customer from the finance dept. to make some cash.

Ok since nobody with a 2005 has auto start from the factory. I have another question can you guyz start your car by inserting the key in the drivers side door and turning it to the left two times??
