Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid - Pics
Well, after being the test guinea pig for GTP's (C-Wings) first Carbon Fiber hood for the Coupe and since everything fit and worked out excellently, I agreed to be the first once again, to pick up and test fit their Carbon Fiber trunk lid.
This is the actual hood at GTP, prior being sent out to me...

Here it is...

NOTE: Any white, dull or white like scratches you see in the trunk are from the cameras flash and overhead lighting.
The over-all quality and structure of the lid is excellent, just like with the hood. The weave is smooth and uniform. All the edges are rolled and follow through to the under side of the lid. It also features a special UV clear coat to prevent it from ever fading, and last but not least, its ridiculously lite!
I haven't had a chance to test fit it yet, and I'm still not sure if I'm gonna keep it as I have mixed feelings about a trunk with no wing, so if anyone out there may be interested in this lid, drop me a PM.
The retail on it is like $650; however, the actual selling (street) price is around $500, but you can be the FIRST and get it from me for $350 + shipping. I also have a brand new, never used JDM Skyline badge for the trunk lid, I'll be willing to sell with the lid for an additional $25.
I'll accept USPS Money Orders, PayPal, or Cash for a local Long Island / NYC area pick up.

cant wait to see the hood. I dont know about the trunk lid. What are you going to do about your spoiler?
Tell them to make a carbon fiber one of that too. I think that would look hot. But anyways nice job.

That lid looks amazing. Did GTP give you the first one free since you were the guinea pig? It would look awesome and will compliment your CF hood nicely. Now the question.. what is the difference in weight of the stock trunk and this one?

No, Its not free. I wish it was!
The price was $350, which is what I'm asking for it. Not a penny more, not a penny less...
I dont know what the stock trunk lids weighs, as I've not yet taken it off, and until I figure out what I want to do with it, it will have to remain a mystery, unless anyone else here knows the number for some reason....

Re: Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid - Pics
i would consider these if u could do like a clear DG paint over them. You know what i mean? so it still has a silver color but also has the CF look through the paint. do u all think that is do able? I would rather shave as much wait from the top parts of the car then from somthing like the exhaust. the weight on the top parts of the car is alot worse then the stuff on the bottom for handling resons. so i would be interested

Re: Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid - Pics
General rule of thumb for items of this nature and size, they usually weigh in it approx half of their counter OEM part if not less. The stock hood weighed in at roughly 23lbs, and the Carbom Fiber hood weighed in at 13.5lbs. The Carbon Fiber lid is weighing in at 10.5 lbs. I dont know what the stock lid weighs, as I have not yet taken it off, but I think its safe to say its gonna weigh in more than 10+ lbs. Another problem, if I do take mine off, I'll have to weigh it with the OEM wing, so that figure will not be accurate to compare directly to the Carbon Fiber lid.
As for the colored Carbon Fiber, it is possible to get colored Carbon Fiber and the color possibilities are endless, but it does become very costly! Stocked Carbon Fiber colors are usually black, red, blue, yellow and so fourth.
If you really want one, it is possible, but understand, they're going to have to manufacture the custom color Carbon Fiber, then send it to the molder who will make the part for you, this all euals mucho-$$$....

And a whole 3 posts! Whoo-Hoo! Do I hear 4 coming now....

Re: Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid - Pics
It might be possible for you to "kinda" match the color of the carbon fiber to the rest of the body. It all depends on the skills of a body shop. First they have to take the clear coat of the carbon fiber part (hood, trunk, etc) and after that they apply a coat of translucent paint over it.. the more coats the less you will be able to see the carbon fiber weave..and vice versa.. also if you have pearl in your car's paint job they could be able to match that too.. It wont look perfect but depending on the application it could look really sick.. Also about the colored carbon fiber..most of the time it's a weave of carbon and kevlar.. the kevlar can b dyed different colors then its weaved with the carbon fiber thread to produce a 2 two tone look.. instead of regular gray-black look of regular carbon fiber..
