Other people having the trunk release problem?

I have an '04 G36 6 mt coupe with 17K miles. Three or four times in the last several months, the trunk release won't work on the key fob, and you can't use the manual release to the left of the steering wheel, or the valet button in the glove box to make it release. It took 10 minutes and finally turning the car on again, before I got it to work again. Is this a known problem for this year or something? What gives?

Thanks!

Nope but the seat release in the rear of my G $hit the bed on me the other day. I had to take a flat head screwdriver and wedge it between the seat and the lock and push it up to get the seat to come down. Good luck with the fix.

billg...no warranty? Dealer might be able to work with you since it's barely 3 yrs and way under the mileage.

basic bumper to bumper is 4year/60K miles warranty right? i think it would cover it if he was having a problem with it.

Thanks for the replies. I know it's under warranty, but am wondering what the problem could be, and how widespread the problem is for others.

I've had the exact same thing happen to my 05 a couple of times now. Took it to the dealership last time it happened, but by the time I got there it worked fine again.

It happened to me like 3 times in the last 2 months on my 05 coupe. I just put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position then take it out. After that, it usually works.

Hey at least you're not the only one? I went to Ikea the other day and it crapped out on me while I was trying to get some stuff into my trunk into the cabin. Were you able to get yours working again?

Yeah, this is pissing me off. I have 05 and every other damn day my trunk does this now.

Try to open trunk from fob and in car - NOTHING.
Place key in ignition and turn, try again - WORKS.

It is like it is resettings omething when I turn the car on and off.

I have taken it to the dealer twice for this issue and they cannot replicate so I am stuck. Anyone know what is causing it so I can tell the dealer???

Ugh. Took by dealer again and still no help. If they cant produce it they are not going to investigate it. Sucks.

THe pushing down on trunk thing does not work for me. THe only thing that works is putting the key in the ignition to "reset."

Really is pissing me off now - happens once a day at least...

But what can I do - I cant take it in when it is doing it because when I turn the car on it fixes it it for a while...

It happens more often on the 6mt's. Usually when i turn the car off before it's come to complete stop then you gotta put the key in turn it to on position and take it out and it works just fine. I donno.... Is this even a defect???

you guys want to replicate it trust me. Just turn the car off even a second before you come to a complete stop and your trunk will not open with the remote or from inside the car. I personally don't care to much about this. It only happens to me when I turn my car off before coming to complete stop and i have a pretty good memory so when i do so, i remember to just turn my key on and off again really quick. I think maybe the car thinks its still moving and when you turn it off it keeps that setting, so you have to turn the key, it knows its stopped and the trunk will open again. Outside of this my car always will let me open my trunk. So try it and see if this rule plays true for you as well.

FINALLY!

Thank you for that. Now I know. And I also would not call that a defect. It is ODD to say the least but not a defect.

Thanks again.
