Just ordered a G35

Just ordered a G35
Just put a deposit on a 6mt g35 DG coupe w/o premium package. I just love the car so much, but I felt the premium package wasn't worth it. I don't care too much for either the sunroof or the bose audio, as well as the other little things that come with it.
I also had another concern, the lack of faith in these cars' 1/4 mile speed. Motor Trend rated the 1/4 mile at 14.23, about equal with WRXs, Stang GTs, E36 M3s, Z4 3.0s,and Audi Audi S4s, which are all about 14.1-14.2 according to car-stats.com, with the Stang and M3 having a flat 14 on a great launch from what I've heard. Of course, I don't know how hard Motor Trend launches their cars, so flat 14s may be a possibility for the G35 coupe just yet.

You guys have to remember that its not just 0-60 times and power-to-weight ratios, but the amount of power under the curve which determines a winner in a 1/4 mile. For example, the WRX has turbo lag, which is inherent with all turbo cars, so through the low end of its powerband, it's not pushing anywhere near as much as the G. Only when its turbos kick up full boost, probably around 3500, does the car surpass the G in power-to-weight. The launch advantage in that case will go to the G, with the WRX having to catch up and them finishing about even. Also, gearing is a big factor, and since we have reasonably high gear ratios for stock cars (3.55, in comparison I believe Stang GTs are 3.27 and the E36 m3 is 3.23,) our cars do faster in the 1/4 than expected. You guys have heard of many Stang guys switching to 3.73s, and this is the reason why. I hope I have been informative, and if I am wrong on any part, I would be more than glad to hear about it, so long as you can back it up, but this is what I have gathered so far. Thanx

Re: Just ordered a G35
Yep.. HP isn't the only thing to look at. I wanted a car with good torque too. That's one of the reasons why I went with the G35.
Torque will always feel more powerful than hp. Torque is what puts you back in the seat. Torque is why a 3.8 liter Pontiac Bonneville feels faster than a Honda S2000, even though it's not.
The torque on this G35C is almost identical to the E46 M3, it's just that the hp numbers are down. That's why it's not quite as fast, even though is feels as fast because of the torque numbers.
